For a while now, I’ve noticed that Qantas makes a boarding call at Hobart before the aircraft is ready for general boarding.
As they are no air bridges at HBA, this means walking out through the outside cattle runs, and we are pulled up by an agent before the walk across the open tarmac to the boarding ramp.
Usually we are waiting for one or two wheelchair pax to be taken up the ramp and the chairs brought down again.
I have always thought that was done to alleviate crowding at the gate inside as it is usually very crowded.
But today, no crowding and not even a queue when they called for Group 1.
Onto the tarmac we went and waited for the wheelchair pax. I love the smell of JetA1 in the morning!
So I asked the agent if there was a change in policy to get passengers out of the terminal as quickly as possible. Sort of, Qantas wants to speed up the turn-around to about the same time as Jetstar.
So here we are on our B737, with almost everyone on board 25 mins before departure
But of course there are the stragglers, so here we sit.
Not complaining ( but a proper PDB here in J would be nice!) but hopefully they can refine the timing a bit.
