I've had the travel expo dilemma before too. In the end we saved our vouchers for something else as Qantas couldn't beat Flight Centre's deal.

Has anyone else *not* had their points show up from this promotion yet?

Guess we'll just wait it out and hope for a better deal on the QF website.

I'm still missing 1000 points (for 2 x $50 vouchers) - the other 8 vouchers have all been posted...

Don't know how you purchased your vouchers. But I bought them all in one go and it was a tedious exercise to register each. When the points turned up, I was missing one voucher. I rang them up and they had to cross check each voucher. It turned out I registered one twice and missed the other one. Situation was corrected and the points posted.

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask. But I'm looking to buy one of these vouchers for a family trip that is coming up. 4 adults and 2 child. I was just double checking the fine print when I saw this:

Must be wholly redeemed in one transaction for an adult base fare (excluding taxes, fees and carriers charges) of equal or higher value to the voucher amount. Taxes, fees and carriers charges apply to all fares paid with a voucher andmust be paid by credit card at the time of voucher redemption. No card payment fee applies.

I understand the taxes and fees exclusion. What has got me worried is the "for an adult base fare". Does this mean I will be charged an adult fare for the children if using the voucher? Or perhaps I can't use one of these vouchers for children at all?

There are rarely any discounts for children over 2 on red e-deal type fares. That is they are basically all "Adult" fares.

Just check the fare rules you are targeting before you buy the voucher, making sure the base fares for all are more than the voucher value.

Thanks. The fares I'm looking at are sale fares (or red-e-deals), international flights ADL-SIN return in october. They are currently showing a discount for the kids of ~$170 each. The base fares are well and truly over the purposed $50 voucher amount. I'm not sure saving $180 in CC fees is worth risking paying an extra $340 for the kids. I would like to test it out but I have no idea when the 6 of us could fly together if not on this trip. Might have to sleep on it.....

We were able to apply a voucher to our daughter's child's fare to LA.

One of these gift vouchers? Or was it a compensation type voucher? (not trying to be rude just want to be 100% sure)

No worries - not rude. :)

It was a gift voucher. I read the same 'terms' as you and had to confirm with Qantas. We were able to use it for a childrens fares, which for international are 75% of the adult base fare. The wording is used basically to point out the vouchers can only be applied to the base fare, not the taxes and charges.

Ok feedback time. I didn't end up using a voucher for the family trip. The reasons are many, but the main way I ruled it out was by doing a dummy booking with one of my own vouchers. (Sure there could be differences due to the voucher only being for one person.) The dummy booking only offered seats via SYD for the sale fares whereas we want to go via MEL. I did some rough cost comparisons (noting the limitations in the available information) and it probably cost $60 extra to not use a voucher.

Also helps that not using the voucher got me another entry for a competition by entering my ABN.

Yes, the issue is the voucher and people named have a reservation id, and that stays the same when it becomes ticketed and paid for. There's no way to change the passengers booked once the voucher/reservation id has been created.

You can see why they therefore allowed you to book multiple people on the one voucher but it means a lot of flexibility is lost (instead of if you could just pay for a separate booking id with vouchers, which would make everything much more flexible).

I just redeemed one of my vouchers. But this time I noticed that I was allowed to make name and FF info changes in the Passenger Details of the booking process (step 4). I seem to remember that these were non-changeable fields before?

So I then tried to redeem another of my vouchers. This time for a my travelling companion for the exact same flights. I changed the name and FF info accordingly and the ticket was issued for my companion.

Maybe it's a glitch or maybe Qantas has loosened the conditions to allow a name change when redeeming a voucher?

Yes, I noticed that today as well. I can't recall what happened last time as it's been a few months but I didn't think it was possible...

It's in the purchase conditions of the voucher (dpn't know when it changed though)

The names of the voucher recipients may be changed when you redeem the voucher at qantas.com.au/giftvouchers, but the number of recipients cannot be changed (you cannot increase or decrease the total number of recipients).

Yes it definitely changed. Here is what it used to be:

QANTAS VOUCHER.JPG

Now it says:

  • Redeemable for one-way or return Qantas domestic flights or Qantas international flights departing Australia only. Cannot be used for multi-city bookings.
  • Must be wholly redeemed in one transaction for an adult base fare (excluding taxes, fees and carriers charges) of equal or higher value to the voucher amount. Taxes, fees and carriers charges apply to all fares paid with a voucher and must be paid by credit card at the time of voucher redemption. No card payment fee applies.
  • Amounts are in Australian dollars (AUD) and are valid for bookings made within 12 months of the voucher issue date.
  • Non-refundable and cannot be redeemed for cash or other goods or services.
  • If more than one voucher recipient, all recipients must redeem and travel together.
  • The names of the voucher recipients may be changed when you redeem the voucher at qantas.com.au/giftvouchers, but the number of recipients cannot be changed (you cannot increase or decrease the total number of recipients).
  • The Qantas Conditions of Carriage and relevant fare conditions apply to all bookings made with a voucher.
  • Vouchers can only be redeemed at qantas.com.au/giftvouchers or through Qantas Contact Centres on 13 13 13. A service fee applies to redemptions through Qantas Telephone Sales.

Noticed today that my vouchers have now "disappeared" from the Your Bookings part of the qantas.com website. I had entered the QF FF number on ba.com. They still show if you enter the PNR. And the QF FF number is there on checkmytrip.com and ba.com
