Qantas: First Class Hosts when flying into SYD

Is it really appropriate to tell F class guests 'oh just join the scrum in the holding pen and make your way over (standing) on the bus? Even BA do things better. For example I was bussed recently after a flight as we had a remote stand. There was one bus for J passengers. Yes, a whole bus for 8 guests or so. Y were held back .

My experience on BA, and I have had many is the opposite. EY, and even MS and SV have separate buses when using remote stands for departure and arrivals for premium pax. On BA, as F pax we are simply put on a bus with all of the other pax, and then have to wait in massive queues on the tarmac to board.

I don't believe any carrier at SYD offers transfer between terminals with a car service, even if on the same ticket. Flying on EY F and connecting to VA, you are specifically excluded from using Chauffeur Drive for that short drive.

As above, when we have flown F as a family tables have been reserved for us without asking in the lounge, as well as one of the suites with a tv. When traveling with my niece it included a Playstation.

It seems QF should be proactively offering the entire First Host service, but they only do it on request. Perhaps there is an operation reason behind that decision.

I agree entirely - it does seem like QF holds back on offering the services as if they're afraid people might want to use them.

The only way I found out there were private rooms in the SYD F lounge that could be booked by passengers was to read about it here on AFF. I've never once been told about them by QF or asked by the First host the day before if I wanted to make a booking - even when travelling in F as a family with a 6 month old.

There you go, I filled my quota today (new stuff from AFF) !

Have asked the first host to reserve a table - we don't do that was the reply. After the first rejection I haven't bothered asking for the rest. C'est la vie!

My experience traveling F with BA hasn't been that flash. In fact their whole ground service is appalling IMHO.....starting with the CCR.

I've had this on entry into the lounge (family of 4 sometimes 5 when the MIL tags along) Not had any luck securing this the day before via the first host.

Oh I hate BA with a passion. Lounges which are being seriously cost cut and can only barely scrape over a pass mark for hygiene, old clapped out planes, staff with an attitude and in flight catering muck.

But my example was a very carefully cherry picked one.

So yet again inconsistency rules when it comes to QF service.

Personally I'm amazed to think they *wouldn't* reserve you a table - you're flying F with a 'full service' airline, they know when you will be arriving into the lounge and how many people will be with you, and it's beyond the scope of the First experience to put a paper sign on a table so you have somewhere to sit when you arrive?!?

There are so few F customers these days flying QF, they probably think they don't matter...

I saw an Australian TV(not movie) actor in j on a mel-syd flight he then got taken by car to intl where a First host walked with him + wife through to passport control. I arrived on the transfer bus at the same time they pulled up in the car.

I've often seen "reserved" signs on tables, normally the larger ones, but two weeks ago I saw one on a two seater by the window in MEL T2 during the morning peak. So, if you are "important" enough, they will do it.

I'm sure that is correct........IIRC there are a few members here on AFF that get the extra VIP treatment.

However, those signs also act as a ruse to avoid seating issues. A couple of times we've been seated at a reserved signed table when travelling J and whY - the waiter advised it was their way to ensure they controlled the seating arrangements thus avoiding DYKWIA's from causing a stink for larger tables, window seats. etc.

Interesting about them not reserving you a table but for some people they will reserve a private room? How big is this private room BTW (photos)? I see them but never bother to pop my head in...

Something I learnt from the QF Tweet & Greet: QF have an Audi A8 limo and driver. He was assigned to Carrie Bickmore for the day, and even held onto her handbag for most of it. He said that he was employed directly by QF. I expect this is a VVIP service they provide to AJ, other execs celebs associated with the company.

Private Suite at Qantas F SYD Lounge is here

Australia has never known how to do premium things right. While QF F and the F lounge certainly are worthy - if you want the full F treatment and the feelings that comes with it I'd fly another airline

Awesome, thanks. Definitely a nice place if you have a group, family, kids or all of the above. Might think of getting one with Mum next year but with only two people it might seem like a waste?
How big is it in sq metres approximately?

Pretty small, maybe 4 x4 . Dodgy (ie non-functioning) air-con but good if you want to be far from the action.

That's plain and simple bit good enough by QF. It's not like there are too many QF F passengers to manage, come on QF. On many occasions I have seen reserved signs on tables, which were then taken up by passengers whining assume we're flying F.

My one and only experience flying QF F out if Syd, was back in 2011 (lots of Y WP visits . Award booking, had to call the F lounge myself to make a spa booking, when arrived at F checkin, agent asked if I wanted to be escorted, I declined.

At lounge, was asked if I would like to be notified when flight boarding, I accepted and handed over my BP. Overall very happy with service, but nothing over the top at the sane time. I'm probably don't come across as a typical F/VIP passenger, younger than ave, and probably more casually dressed and mannerisms.

Hey don't complain!

Better than arriving in F, joining the scrum in the holding pen, only to be told that your QF flight # is actually on JQ and you'll have to pay and make your own way to T2 and re-check bags there.

Is it possible to do kerbside checkin when travelling F with BA ex Sydney? or is this a QF benefit only?
