Qantas: First Class Hosts when flying into SYD

Is it possible to do kerbside checkin when travelling F with BA ex Sydney? or is this a QF benefit only?

No airline has kerbside check in at SYD, or any Australian airport.

If you're referring to a First host and porter to meet you, no this does not extend to BA flights. You must check in at the BA counters which is nothing like the QF F check in experience, unfortunately.

Apart from being met kerbside, what makes the Qantas F check in so special? I ask as I used it about a year ago and I had to queue like I had in the past for J check in and stand at the counter like Y check in. Sure, you're hidden from view by the marble (?) wall but.... Did I miss something?

you get to look at the cattle on the other side of the conveyor belt.

I've never had to queue in the F check in; if they're busy they usually just ask you to take a seat. And the "porter" will deal with the luggage, you don't have to lift it onto the scale yourself. So it's a little nicer.

I did check in to F once in Singapore. Far more refined experience: the whole thing was sitting down and your luggage is dealt with by a porter. But Changi has a better set up for (all) premium customers.

Sorry yes i meant the first host and porter..... well that sucks I was really looking forward to the whole experience again. :( Hopefully i can check in around 4hrs early with BA I've read that on another post, hopefully snag a spa treatment pre flight.

Thanks for letting me know

IME BA doesn't open until 3 hours prior. Even as a F pax I had to wait behind around 8 pax last time where one was BA Gold who were all traveling in J. That's the complete contrast to all of my F experience where I pack at SYD T1 valet (former Qantas valet), the porter and host will come to the car, walk us immediately to a waiting check in desk while we sit down, they have generally filled out immigration cards for us and we are walked through to the lounge.

The experience is more refined because you generally never have to wait, and you can remain seated while they process your luggage and check in.

What's that thing in MEL that's called kerbside check in?

First, Platinum, Chairmans Lounge and oneworld Emerald passengers may access the First Class Check-in Suite from the kerbside adjacent to the Business counters.

Slightly OT but when I traveled F MEL-LAX this year the First host called me the day before. I asked about a number to call when approaching the F check in area for the porter to help with bags and he said it wasn't necessary. I unloaded the bags and got into the check in area just in time to see the porter getting up from the couch on the right hand side so my expectations have been somewhat lowered.

BA's own website indicates that check in is only 3 hours ahead of departure in Syd. For my BA F flight in a couple of weeks I've asked the BA chauffeur to collect me at 1pm for a drop off around 1:20 which will still be 5 mins early.

They may call it kerbside check in, but it isn't. Kerbside check in, to me, is what they offer in the US where you literally check in and hand your bags over at check in.

Walking through a door on the kerb to check in, is not kerbside checkin regardless of their marketing.

VA drive through check in seems very cool!

So we could call it '5 metres from kerbside through an automatic sliding door check in'.

I am amazed at the misinformation here. QF will call the day prior, though if I don't hear by 3PM I call them.

They won't meet you at DOM, however they will meet you kerbside with a porter, or as we commonly request at SYD T1 Valet (formerly Qantas valet).

EVERY F pax is entitled one, whether on a revenue or award ticket, at all stations.

They will also escort you once check in is complete to the F Lounge, and later collect you for pre boarding.

I have had F hosts in SYD, MEL and LAX. The host in LAX is phenomenal.

Our entire family use them so they are not mythical nor tare they reserved for just VIPs.

In all of my F flights I have never had such experience nor offer at SYD nor LAX nor anywhere tbh. Best I get is my BP being brought to me in the F Lounge to advise me that boarding is underway. Although I did have an F host waiting for me at the actual gate (after I made my own way from the Lounge), who then walked to the aircraft with me to advise that I had the entire cabin to myself and I could sit anywhere I wanted. Other than that - have never received that described above.

That's with 9 QF F flights.

Do they not call you the day prior? Sometimes they just don't, but I have the F mobile number for SYD handy.

Seriously. Kerbside check in means on the kerb. You pull your car up next to it. Not inside the terminal.

For those that don't understand this is what kerbside check in looks like

Sorry - yes - I receive the call the day prior (once not). And yes - they book a spa appointment and offer to meet me kerbside.

But I have not ever received the "F Host" escort treatment as described in your post.

It's supposed to be offered proactively but I think know they operate on a request basis only.

Would I get all the bells and whistles when on an F USDM redemption??

Edit: Wait a minute, is this thread about incoming or outgoing ... I'm confused.

My F Flights go back to 2009.

2011 was the only year since where I took no Qantas F flights. So not sure when they were meant to last offer it proactively..??
