Interesting that Frankfurt (FRA) is on the list. Potentially this means that QF5/QF6 may have a premature end.

Or a way for QF to see what customers prefer of the two offerings!

Interesting having Mel-Kuala Lumpur QF codeshare on EK, yet Malaysia Airlines who are due to join Oneworld on 1st Feb (and QF are MH's sponsor into OW) no direct codeshare flights with MH!

Don't think Qantas has any existing codeshares with MH, nor even a points earning list.
This may/may not change on 1-Feb, has been suggestions that the MH relationship has changed given the QF/EK deal

Also seeing (eg. searching Sydney-Zurich) some flights that are codeshare (QF numbers), others that are EK numbers (both shown with the Emirates flag)
Be interesting to know whether there is any difference (points, SCs, lounge access etc) between the options.


Also seeing the same flights (codeshare and non-direct) on AnySeat awards, but not on Classic (where mostly BA options)


Also seeing a new booking class "Exclusive Business" on some awards.

QF5/6 can still be booked through the QF booking engine right up until 26OCT13. The options for J class ex-Germany on QF are now pretty poor to be honest. The outbound flights seem to be exclusively on EK metal. How is that meant to "turn around" QFs international strategy? In future, I may as well just fly EK.

Looks like you can add your QFF # to Emirates bookings now..! But we still don't know whether they will decide to offer SC's on EK coded flights!!

Just searched a few dates PER to LHR. There doesn't seem to be any flights through Dubai on EK. It seems they are still pushing pax onto either BA or though Frankfurt. I am assuming this will change in the future? The funny thing is when you book to somewhere else like Prague, Zurich or Manchester you can book on EK metal.

But FAQs with the update on QF website dated 17th Jan says "Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn points on ALL Emirates flights" (my bold).

With that statement, should we be confident they'll honour it if we book EK flight that is not a route where there's a QF codeshare?

I'd like to see how Qantas will possibly justify this against their bottom line!

I know they are meant to reciprocate benefits, but now we have a free Dubai stopover and Chauffeur service for J and F. That's not small bikkies if Qantas can't get the throughput required.

I suppose the rationale might be that the offer just might be rarely taken up, especially when we start having a string of incidents of stupid Aussies being imprisoned for violating UAE laws that they didn't bother to heed.

One would hope their idea is by offering these services they can attract more customers or be able to charge a slight premium.

And how is flying routes such as Frankfurt meant to turn around QFi? Double hops to a location like Germany just don't work. That is the very reason that all the European Airlines (except BA and VS) stopped flying to Australia in their own right years ago. The only reason BA continued and Qantas still flies to London is because of the stronger than normal links between Australia and the UK meaning a hell of a lot more traffic.

I didn't say it would. The point I was making is that if I am being funnelled on to EK metal for the entire journey GERMANY - DXB - AUSTRALIA, at an extra cost to fly on a QF codeshare, why would I bother booking through QF? I would be better going directly to emirates.com and booking there. That way QF don't see a cent. That does absolutely nothing for their new "4 pillar strategy".

You would, however, forego QF status credits (because they can only be earnt on QF flight numbers). Whether you are willing to do that will depend on how much value you place on oneworld elite status. You could become Skywards elite, which will replace your QF elite benefits domestically, but you'd give up elite benefits on the rest of oneworld.

Actually SCs and points can be earned on non QF flight numbers in Oneworld for instance. It was reported above that points and SCs can be earned on any EK flight as well.

In the context of the EK partnership, as it stands, to earn SCs on an Emirates operated flight, your ticket must have a QF flight number.

You only had 1 destination anyway, so it's not as if much has changed. However, the EK deal does open more destinations that you can reach in one stop compared to backtracking via LHR.

Simon, I have never seem SC's mentioned for EK flight numbers, just points only. I think that was a question raised originally as it all pointed to points only for EK.

I would suggest having those loads on other routes would very much help in turning around QFi (dont believe everything you read or hear at AGMs etc about performance).
