Qantas Economy Plus Launching Feb 2026

Soon Qantas will monetise the airflow device and the pillow and the IFE and toilet usage.
WHATS LEFT TO MONETISE ?
oh that’s right, the fly on the wall

I guess it gives more of an incentive to push towards LifeTime status.

I do miss being able to select row 4 at T-80. Selecting it free at check-in as a WP makes it harder to get as often many are looking at the same time.
I've enjoyed plenty of T-80 shenanigans, but overall I prefer that the changes make the experience slightly better for frequent flyers.

Don't foret Michael O'Leary's plan to have standing passengers. It didn't get traction but it's many years later and perhaps QF is thinking about it. 🤣

I think if they charged for IFE the cabin crew could go on strike. I doubt they will ever charge for IFE

Thats for JQ. They need to different the brands for all the corporates and pollies.

I've been plat and gold for years, its a one off year of silver before I come back up. So it sucks.

Is there a way to tell from the seat map which seats require you to put hand luggage in the overhead lockers and which allow you to keep hand luggage beneath the seat in front? I'm all for extra space but I don't choose bulkhead or exit rows unless it's a long-haul flight, as I like having easy access to my things.

QF doesn't have bulkheads (except row 1 in business) on the 737 and a321XLR. So the only rows that will need baggage overhead are row 1 and the overwing emergency exit rows.

That said row 4 can sometimes get funky space wise under the business class seat if all 3 people in economy want to put something under.

Has anyone been able to confirm yet that PS and NB still have to pay for available Y+ seats after check-in? This appears to be the case from what I've seen.

If you don't choose your own seat, at some point QF will have to allocate the extra leg room seats for free when you check in.

The 737 suffers the same fate as the QF (and nearly everyone else) 787 - extra pitch can't make up for the lack of width. OT, but I'd still be interested to understand how many actual bums in seats an 8 across 787 would lose in a year compared to the ubiquitous 9 across configuration based on actual load factors.

That would eat into Premium Economy though which might force a 1 seat reduction there.

It's indicated as payment being the case in the Qantas publicity materials. See this PDF.

I realised after the fact that the B737 I was in from BNE to PER last month was one of the newly configured aircraft. I did note at the time of flying that there seemed to be more leg room. Actually, what I noticed was that the seat back in front of me wasn't right up in my face!

I also had all three seats to myself on that flight. Noice! But that does make me wonder about the shadow middle seat I often find next to me. Will shadow seats be rarer? I guess if general passengers haven't paid for the extra legroom seats, they will still be allocated seats further back in the aircraft and the extras left last. We shall see. (Personally, I do not like row 4, with tray tables in the armrest. Horrible for holding the iPad and lunch. With extra legroom rows now, row 4 might not be as popular. I would love to see the sales results!)

Is there any indication how Dash 8 flights will be allocated/prioritised?
I just booked a flight and it defaulted the class to Economy Plus, but being a Dash 8 there was only the usual aisle/window option. Given it's a Canberra flight, most people on the flight will likely be SG/WP/P1/CL, are they allocated by order of precedence of status, order of booking time, raffle spinning wheel, Thunderdome?

I don't believe Dash 8 or E190 are in scope for Y+

This is an actual improvement for a large proportion of pax. And ‘no change’ for the others.

I can’t see any downside or ‘slippery slope here’?

That being said, what is odd is leaving out poor row 9?? They could have e taken 3 inches from row four and made the whole section Y+ on the 737.
