Hi,

I bought a business class international rtn ticket over a week ago at Qantas online and had my credit card AND points balance debited that day succcessfully. Having booked many times with Qantas I have always recieved the official 'PDF' e ticket within 12 hours - but not this time!

I phoned Qantas (London) and they sent a plain text email 'Duplicate Itinerary' to my inbox with no charges or tax information included (these all say '0.00'). I've just phoned again to ask where the official PDF e-ticket version is and again they have sent through a plain text email with no charges or fare paid within it!

Is there a problem generating official Qantas PDF e tickets (my email settings have not changed) Thanks for any advice. (Leave UK on 3rd May).

I can't really provide any advice, but I was surprised to receive a plain text e-ticket for a booking I made CBR-SYD-DFW and return on the 17th of this month. Paid fare, but I did put a voucher towards it (so that could be why).

Domestic bookings I've made have all been the PDF version though.

In the past I have however found that when asking the service desk to send through a confirmation, it'll always be the plain text type.

Short answer, no - there isn't a problem, and it's entirely normal for this to happen, specially in the case of international segments.

Despite you having selected and paid for your ticket, and your PNR for the itinerary issued, there is still one step left to complete. It's called Reservations, who review every international ticket issued no matter how you made the booking.

Domestic flights are automated due to their low complexity, so business rules allow them through so you see it within a couple of hours unless it finds something complex and wants human eyes on it. International segments are easy to screw up, specially if the booking engine spits out flight combos that are invalid due to MCT issues or others, hence why they're always checked over by an expeirenced human.

Depending on how many tickets are waiting in their queue and the date of departure to departure, a 2-4 day wait for PDF confirmation of an international segment is entirely normal. However, in extreemly busy booking periods this can blow out to 5-10 days.

Work is also automatically prioritised by the system. It's done using a set of business rules that look at amongst other things departure date proximity, travel class, complexity of ticket, and possibly pax FF status - but I can't confirm this last one absolutely.

As you have a dupe itinerary showing everything's Ok, simply sit back and relax.

If you get to two weeks out from your departure and it's still not been received - this is when you should call them up and ask what's happening.

PS: Their system doesn't allow them to re-send PDF's. As Ewing noted, copies are always sent in plain text.

The only times you will generate a PDF version of your e-ticket (which is not "official", it's just a format of sending you your booking; a plain text version is "just as good" for most intents and purposes) are:
  • Australian domestic itineraries
  • International itineraries booked from the Australian website (i.e. when booked from other country websites, you will receive a plain text)
and the booking must be a new booking online.

The exceptions to International itineraries is if it is booked as an Award online, where you will receive a PDF, too.

Anything else will generate a plain text version.

If you need paid fare information with detailed information, you can try using LAN's Print my e-ticket function. You will need your Amadeus PNR: LAN.com Imprima su ticket Also, if you have never gone to this page or LAN's website before, this page may appear initially in Spanish.

The e-ticket number is all important. If it has not yet been ticketed, there won't be one.

First check to see if it has been ticketed.

  • Plug your booking into www.checkmytrip.com and look for the e-ticket number near the top. (It should start with 081-.. [i.e. Qantas ticketed])

If there is no mention of this then, indeed, it has not been ticketed.

If it has been ticketed, you can then try to get a tax / levy /charge breakdown.

  • If there is only only of you in the booking it may be possible to do so using using the LAN eticket print utility. (LAN.com Imprima su ticket)

Note that an e-ticket by definition is not a physical entity. Its an entry in a computer system. The email or the PDF file is just an e-ticket receipt or a copy of your itinerary. An e-ticket receipt should include the e-ticket number and that is all that should be needed for the airline check-in staff to be able to locate your e-ticket within their computer systems and from there they can see how much you paid and the tax calculations etc. Some e-ticket receipts do include details such as payment amounts and tax calculations.

So when traveling, make sure you have a copy of the e-ticket number. Just having the booking reference (PNR) number may not be sufficient. And if traveling internationally then also carry a printed copy of your itinerary in case you need to prove onwards bookings from countries with length of stay restrictions.

To have a PDF copy of the itinerary re-sent to you...

Go to: Manage Your Booking at qantas.com

And in the box on the right hand side click the "Email Itinerary" radio button, plug in your booking reference and off you go, a PDF version will be sent to the email address you gave in your booking

Too easy

Too easy
Except that it not a .pdf

It is a bland text summary of your travel - no e-ticket number at all.

E.g.
Booking Reference: PNRPNR

To have a PDF copy of the itinerary re-sent to you...

Ooh, that worked. I now have a PDF itinerary for the trip I referred to earlier (where I received a text based itinerary originally) :)

Thanks for the tip.

Not sure why it didn't work for serfty though.

OK, had a closer look.

That facility is not available from the log in page. I was logged into my account and using the email
i_email.gif
facility toward the upper right of the booking display.

You have to go via the link listed.

jdevereux3 - THANK YOU - it worked perfectly! I now have the PDF and receipt. I have to say I've never gone in to the site via that route (even though it's obvious now).

Also, thanks to everyone else for responding. Your comments are much appreciated!:)

Well I ate my words. Just booked a set of QF flights ex-LON using QF UK, and got a PDF version right off the bat.

Strange since all the flights booked from New Zealand and Fiji came in as plain text. Perhaps it's a regional thing (i.e. Europe base ops got the good system rather than the default text system).

In any case, the PDF version doesn't show tax breakdown information. Whilst it's better than seeing no prices (like "0.00"), QF still remains one of the few if the only airline in the world where you can't access a detailed breakdown of taxes and charges using their resources.
