Qantas double SCs

TimB - It seems that there may be an error in your email. Would you mind PMing me your QFF number so I can investigate. I want to avoid any confusion in the future.
kody - the flight you mention should be eligible based on "any flight with a QF flight number on the ticket where Status credits are normally earned." but please review the full conditions in the email.

I am bronze with 140 status credits for the year (ending 31 December). I got an email for double status credits for the rest of the year. However, not sure there will be much travelling for the rest of the year (already going overseas flying Scoot, Jetstar Asia and Air Asia), so I doubt I will get to Silver.

Hardly worth extending yourself for a bag tag....

I received this offer today:

"To help you retain your Platinum status we are offering Double Status credits^ on all eligible* Qantas flights when you register, book and travel between 3 Sep 2012 and 30 Nov 2012."

(My status year ends on 30 Nov, and I'm currently 320 SCs short.)

Just my luck: I booked some JASAs two days ago to take advantage of the double SC offer on SYD-OOL flights that I've also received. If I held off until today, I would have earned an extra 160 SCs on the legs that don't already qualify for the OOL offer. :(

While I don't need the extra SCs to renew WP for another year, they would have brought LTS that little bit closer.

If there's still availability you could look into what the cancellation policy is, and rebook, gaining a new PNR ;)

No offer for me here, but I do have re-qual sorted, though 600SC for the next level would have been tempting :p

I'm doing just that, and looking at other JASA status run options, now that I'm no longer limited to the SYD-OOL route for getting double SCs. :)

It will depend on how quickly the points are refunded from cancelled JASAs; looking at other threads here, it seems to be as quick as one or two days, or as slow as a week or multiple weeks. Still, I'll be seeing what I can make work.

I've never done it, and I'm sure you've read up on it, but I'm pretty sure you need to do it over the phone or you'll get cash but no points. Just making sure you're aware, wouldn't want to waste it all!

I've still never had one of the Double Status Credit offers. Not a single one! Is this unusual? Slightly annoyed!!

I have a theory that the offers are about quarterly and are made to those whose membership year is expiring at the end of that quarter (so December for this offer or Nov/Jan for this offer) perhaps have some forward travel booked that will get them close to a threshold but not quite over it. Perhaps QF is hoping that they'll either not take the offer up or they'll squeeze in additional travel to take advantage of it. Of course it's only a theory, we'll never know and it's based on a small sample size (no I didn't get the offer but colleagues did).

I've had one in the last quarter before, but also the first quarter too... so who knows, all I really know is that the offers have made me spend more so they have benefitted from sending them to me. Nothing this time though, but here's hoping for next year.

I haven't had a Double SC offer since .... wow ... must be 2009 I would think. Hope my name will be in the hat sometime next year. LOL

I have done this. If you try to cancel on-line, when you get near the final step, it shows you what will be refunded. It's all in cash (a credit card crediting) and it's a pittance.

Phone up to cancel. Never cancel on-line if you want your points back.

Also, be prepared for the call-centre staff to tell you that you can do it on-line. Politely decline their advice.

I called at lunchtime, and soon found out I'd been transferred to the regular service centre because all the Platinum desk staff were busy. The guy I spoke to said that my flights would be refunded as credit vouchers, so I asked to be transferred to the Platinum desk.

The person I spoke to there was very helpful, checked the fare conditions on each of my bookings, and confirmed that I'd receive a full points refund and the cash component back on my credit card. (She also confirmed that I still had that card, and that it hadn't been lost or stolen -- that happens a fair bit, apparently.) She also said the flights should be cancelled within about 48 hours, but because they weren't imminent, it might take a bit longer.

So, the guy on the regular service desk didn't have a clue, while the Platinum desk handled it without a problem at all.

I got my first & only one earlier this year.....after 16 years of QFF membership.

You may not be in the mix due to already achieving LTG.....who knows.

Wouldn't LTG members be at the highest risk of churning to a competing FF program?

It's a strange phenomenon - it's common for all companies (large & small) to lose sight of their most important customer base!

Wow, that was fast. The flights no longer show up in my bookings, and the points have been refunded already, less than 9 hours after I called. Well done Qantas!

this is good news. I may have to cancel a FASA and it's good to know this is the outcome (full points refunded)

Remeber, the fare rules for any xASA can vary depending on many factors including the route - before canceling I suggest you check them first.

(Look for something like "Before travel has commenced - fully refundable")
