Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Later on 21 November, the WLG - MEL QF172 (B738 VH-XZC) is holding above Warragul so expected arrival is 50 late at 1850 hours.

QF37 (1720 hours afternoon MEL - SIN, A333 VH-QPD) was off blocks at 1754, taking off at 1807 hours. Predicted arrival is 2258 hours, 43 late. This may slightly delay redeye QF38 back down to MEL, as it is scheduled to depart at 2340 ex SIN and normally a turnaround of an A333 takes at least 70 minutes.

In further, QF453 SYD-MEL (A332 VH-EBG) has a revised arrival at 19 37, 62 later than expected.
QF623 MEL-BNE (B738 VH-VZY) arrived late at 17 35, 75 min behind.

QF463 SYD-MEL 18 30 hours service was cancelled. Similarly, QF479 SYD-MEL 18 45 hours also cancelled. Also, QF492 MEL-SYD 20 30 was cancelled.

QF45 (21 November 2019, the 1730 hours MEL - DPS with B738 VH-XZD) took off at 1816, making estimated at gate arrival 56 behind at 2126 mid evening in Bali.

The 1630 hours SYD down to MEL (QF449) managed to be up up and away at 1656 hours, only about 10 - 15 late, with VH-VXH but the good timekeeping news ceased then, as arrival is a suggested 1852 hours, 47 late given a very lengthy hold southwest of Khancoban and the accompanying indirect, longer flight path subsequently incurred.

QF834 (1710 hours MEL - CBR, VH-VZQ) took off at 1837 hours so 1928 looks to be expected at gate arrival, 73 behind. QF826, the 1620 hours northbound on the same route is not far ahead, being airborne at 1834 with VH-VZS for likely national capital at gate arrival at 1926 hours, 121 late.

QF496 17:45 MEL-SYD now boarding 1 hour after scgeduled departure time. Whilst there have been minor weather delays to most MEL flights in the last 2 hours, the reason for at least 30 mins of this delay, was the time taken to offload 5 wheelchair/mobility impaired passengers, as only 1 tiny Qantas staff to assist all of them,

It was cancelled yesterday between MEL and PER and today the scheduled 1650 hours MEL - PER, QF9, is delayed in its initial departure until a claimed 1930 hours (160 late), meaning the PER stop should be from 2025 tonight to 2150, the latter being 150 minutes late. LHR Friday 22 November arrival at gate should be about 0740, 155 behind the timetable. Given the extremely long layover, it would be unusual for Friday night's QF10 ex LHR to be delayed.

UPDATE: QF9 departed at 1950 from MEL with B789 VH-ZNC that had been in MEL since arriving at 1013, 17 minutes early on QF96 ex LAX. QF has amended PER arrival to 2040 with just a 70 minute stop shown. Usually at least 85 minutes is required.

QF496 17:45 MEL-SYD now boarding 1 hour after scgeduled departure time. Whilst there have been minor weather delays to most MEL flights in the last 2 hours, the reason for at least 30 mins of this delay, was the time taken to offload 5 wheelchair/mobility impaired passengers, as only 1 tiny Qantas staff to assist all of them

It departed 71 late at 1856, with suggested SYD arrival 2022 hours, 72 minutes late.

One reason for insufficient staff to assist the disabled may be that with so many other flights half an hour late or more, staff were engaged with those and couldn't attend to passengers on Lynda2475's arriving aircraft VH-XZP. This plane arrived in MEL at 1801 hours, 56 minutes late as QF476, the 1030 hours from PER that had become airborne at 1116 (about half an hour behind schedule, so it lost another 26 minutes on a gate-to-gate basis). 55 minutes to turn around a B738 is slow.

Continuing with Thursday 21 November, QF833 (B738 VH-VZS, the 1800 hours CBR down to MEL) did not take off until 2015. Projected at gate arrival is 131 minutes tardy at 2121.

QF490 is the northbound 2000 hours MEL up to SYD in the sky 59 minutes later with VH-VZR, so arrival should be 2206, 41 late.

QF465, the 1900 hours SYD - MEL pointed skywards at 2016 with VH-VZF, so expected arrival has become 78 minutes behind the timetable at 2153 hours.

The 1910 hours MEL up to BNE QF634 was airborne at 2118 so arrival is a suggested 2214, 114 late for B738 VH-VYH. Yet QF641 in the opposite direction is about two minutes late. On days like this when one major airport of the three east coast ones is adversely affected as MEL was today, it can very much depend on the roster as to where your aplane has been - and whether it's had a 'lunch break' in the middle of the day, often the quietest period for passenger demand - as to whether you arrive without fuss or conversely are hours late.

QF2051, the Friday 22 Novermber 0815 hours MEL down to DPO Q400 is expected to depart at 1000, 105 minutes late. QF2281, the 0825 hours MEL - LST has been cancelled. This is because QF2050 that usually arrives in MEL at 0740 is not so doing until a projected 1105 hours.

As a consequence, QF2052 is predicted to arrive MEL at 1240 this afternoon, 105 late. QF2282, the 1120 hours MEL arrival ex LST is cancelled.

Similarly, QF2280 from LST to MEL, normally an 0745 hours arrival is to come in at 0930 hours.

Yesterday with winds in HBA, at least two JQ flights were diverted to LST so QF must have also been affected.

The 1030 hours MEL - SYD (QF424) is also cancelled, as much later is QF464, the 1930 hours northbound.

Souhbound, QF413, the 0745 hours ex SYD to MEL is also getting the gong as far later is QF453, the 1700 hours ex the mainland harbour State capital.

QF24, the 1800 hours Thursday 21 BKK down overnight to SYD took off at 1920 hours, so Friday 22 expected arrival has become -814 hours, 44 minutes tardy for A333 VH-QPG.

Also on Friday 22 November, QF11, the 1110 hours SYD to LAX is delayed until 1200 'high noon' in its pushback.

Speaking of 1200, that was the time - 35 late - that the SYD - SIN QF81 departed, so arrival is estimated at 115, half an hour behind schedule. A333 VH-QPH is the aircraft.

Thursday 21's QF9 was delayed in MEL (see above) so the PER intermediate stop was from 2033, 163 late to 2152 (152 minutes behind schedule) with Fridaay LHR arrival estimated as 0725 (140 minutes tardy).

UPDATE: QF11 pushed back in SYD at 1212 hours with A388 VH-OQI, becoming airborne at 1235 hours. QF suggests same day arrival in LAX will be 0741, 101 minutes late. It is abnormal for such time to be lost gate-to-gate, and Google says arrival will be at 0610 hours, only 10 late. If the QFi prediction is correct - it's the operator - then the connecting B789 on the crosscountry USA QF11 to JFK, the 0820 hours ex LAX, will be slightly delayed in departure.

QF97, the mostly punctual 0935 hours BNE - HKG departed at 1018 so predicted at gate arrival has become 1701 hours, 31 late. This should not delay any returning overnight flights ex HKG.

The 1210 hours MEL - SIN A388, QF35, an hour ago was displaying as only a 20 minute delay in pushback, but this has turned into a suggsted 40 minute delay (which was five minutes ago), so arrival is likely in Lion City at after 1740 hours, so more than 35 late.

QF142 (22 November 2019, the timetabled 1535 hours mid afternoon AKL - SYD in the sky 58 minutes later with B738 VH-XZD) should arrive 31 late at 1741 hours.

The 1600 hours MEL - SYD (VH-VZB) took off at 1633 so predicted arrival is 39 late at 1804, alhough at 1734, the plane remained in a hold just west of Goulburn.

In further today, QF2173 PQQ-SYD (DH8C VH-TQE) is currently diverting to TMW.
QF146 AKL-SYD (A333 VH-QPG) is expected at 19 37, 97 late.
QF164 WLG-SYD (B738VH-XZC) is currently diverting to CBR.
QF1586 HBA-SYD (B712 VH-NXI) also diverted to CBR.

Several aircrafts on holding pattern, so keep an eye

QF2047, the 1645 hours DBO - SYD (Q300 VH-SBJ) that took off at 1706, normally due to arrive SYD at 1750, is another diversion, also to CBR, where arrival should be at about 1836 hours.

Are these diversions due to congestion from smoke haze around the Sydney Basin?

As I posted earlier Sydney Airport was closed for a while due to thunder & lightning, currently operational again

QF569 is the 1655 hours SYD - PER aiborne on 22 November at 1833 hours. B738 VH-VZW should arrive at about 2014, 84 behind schedule.

QF444, the 1530 hours MEL - SYD that took off only 10 or so late at 1550 (B738 VH-VXL) had a most interesting and unusual journey, culminating in a diversion to CBR, with arrival at 1853 hours. The flight path was Tumut - Harden - then down to north of Yass, over Goulburn and then a brief holding pattern, east of Campbelltown and north as far as Gosford, then south (east of SYD) to Port Kembla and on to CBR. A magical mystery tour!

Currently at CBR on board QF142, plenty of other aircraft here. Captain said best case scenario two hours until refueling and take off. The plane operating QF444 (the flight Melburnian1 just referred to) is parked right next to us

The 1715 hours SYD to MEL took off at 1840 with B738 VH-VYG. This QF451 should arrive at 2000 hours at gate, 70 minutes tardy. Close behind is QF457, teh 1745 hours departure that was up up and away at 1842 for a suggested at gate 1958 hours, 38 late arrival with VH-VXS the taskmaster. As always with these significant problems on high frequency domestic routes, highly variable experiences: almost a lucky dip.

Have noticed a lot of Q-link & REX aircraft flying past to land in Sydney. I wonder in cases like this do they get priority? I imagine their fuel reserves would be lower. Maybe that's a one for the Pilots thread.
