Qantas Delays/Cancellations

If No Mayday, then likely the aircraft’s Emergency Electrical Generator - called the EmerGen (not the APU) was not required.

Would be interesting to see what was degraded

There is a little bit more info over on prune, though, as always, it has to be filtered.

I have no specific knowledge of the A330. It would seem that the fault was with a system that controls some of the AC and DC busses. That resulted in numerous warnings, failure of autopilot and many coughpit displays. In that case, the very tidy flight path leading to Broome was particularly well done.

Earlier on Friday 17 May 2019, QF63, the often late B744 scheduled off blocks in SYD at 1055 for a 1700 hours JNB arrival, departed at 1154 with suggested arrival 1730 in the late afternoon local time.

QF29 departed MEL at 1013 hours, 33 late, arriving HKG at 1807, 47 minutes behind schedule. A333 VH-QPB was the aircraft.

The 0935 hours morning QF61 from BNE up to NRT was worse, not pushing back until 1112 hours, arriving at 1920, 85 late. This plane was VH-QPD. Redeye QF62 from NRT down to BNE should depart at 2055 tonight, an hour late.

QF80 tonight from NRT to MEL, the 2005 hours, should depart at 2045.

The B744 ex SYD at 1235 for SCL departed only 18 late but same day expected arrival is 1135, half an hour behind.

QF9, the 1515 hours MEL - PER has a pretty good domestic timekeeping performance but today it was 75 late away with arrival in the WA capital at 1817 hours, 62 late. Departure for LHR is projected as bang on 2000 hours, 75 late with Saturday 18 arrival in 'The City' at 0625 hours, 80 late. B789 VH-ZNH is the aircraft, with no obvious delay reason as it had arrived in MEL on 17 May at 0535 hours, only five minutes late on QF50, ex SFO on Wednesday 15.

The afternoon 1615 hours from MEL up to SIN, QF37 was 61 late off its blocks so Lion City arrival has become a suggested 2335, 70 late. None of us need to be Rhodes Scholars to discern that the redeye back down, QF38, will be delayed. The forecast is for an 0050 hours SIN pushback, an hour late, on Saturday 18 with MEL arrival 1020, 65 late.

Thursday 16 saw 'the 2' push back in LHR at 2155, 50 late, arriving SIN on 17 May at 1829, 64 late. QF says departure tonight for SYD will be only 20 minutes tardy at 1950 hours: possible, but probably optimistic. A 90 minute stay (minimum) is more the norm.

QF108 PEK-SYD (VH-EBQ) from yesterday night (17 May) will depart today (18 May) at 20.45, 21 hours late and is due into Sydney tomorrow morning at 10.20 instead of the scheduled 13.20 today.

Last night's HKG-SYD QF118 did a good job of getting to the terminal 15 minutes early - almost. The late departure of the plane in our bay meant that we ended up being about 15 minutes late.

May 18ths QF7 diverted to IAH due to weather at DFW. Continued to DFW with several hours of delays. Aircraft still on ground at DFW having not yet boarded at 0720, 3.5h late.

That may well be first use of IAH for QF7.

The aircraft (A388 VH-OQL) departed SYD on Saturday 18 May at 1317, 42 late, arriving IAH at 1411, 71 late. It then pushed back at 2311 late at night, arriving DFW at 0039 hours today (Sunday 19), 549 minutes late. QF8 from DFW to SYD was amended to depart at a projected 0200 hours on Sunday 19 (205 late) with SYD Monday 20 arrival forecast as 0935, 190 late.

As at 1727 AEDT (0227 CDT), OQL did not appear to have pushed back. Hardly surprising, because minimum turnaround time is about 105 minutes for this size plane.

The Monday 19 arriving (in SYD) QF12 ex LAX should be at its allocated gate at 0708, 38 late.

There shouldn't be any delays to the outbound ex SYD A388 QF flights on Monday from these delays, such are the generous timetabled turnarounds.

As at 1810 WST (2010 AEST) on Thursday 16 May 2019, looks like this aircraft (A332 VH-EBL) remains in BME...

This aircraft (electrical fault meaning diversion to BME) operated QF6134 on Friday 17 May, arriving BNE at 1548 hours. As of Sunday 19 it looks to be still undergoing repairs.

QF63, the 1055 hours mid morning SYD - JNB B744 departed 69 late on Tuesday 21 May with arrival suggested as 1745, 45 down. This will delay the redeye QF64 back overnight to SYD.

Wednesday 22 May sees QF7, the long flight from SYD across to DFW pushing back 21 late at 1256 hours with arrival suggested as 1337, 37 late.

Wednesday 22 May 2019 saw QF34, the timetabled evening 2025 hours from KIX to SYD taking off at 2209, so on Thursday 23, arrival should be at 0832, 82 late. Aircraft is A333 VH-QPE. Yesterday it was only 24 late arriving in Osaka at 1924 hours as QF33, so not sure why the delay to 'the 34.'

QF20 departed MNL last night at 2031, 31 late, arriving SYD at 0650, 40 down.
