Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Quickstatus, if I am not mistaken QF55 ran between SYD-BNE yesterday. I believe some AFF'ers were in the F-Lounge enjoying the hospitality.

In further on Friday 28 September, QF19, the 1210 hours SYD - MNL departed at 1252 with arrival forecast 35 down at 1835 early this evening local time.

The 1155 hours QF35 A388 departed 34 minutes late from MEL with arrival in SIN predicted as identical to QF19 in MNL, in this case 40 late.

QF63 from SYD to JNB was only 15 late pushing back at 1110 but arrival is also 40 late at a projected 1740.

Yes, mannej, it appears to have departed SYD at 1404 hours, 19 late with BNE arrival at 1522 hours, two minutes tardy. It then departed BNE two minutes early at 1748 with LAX arrival at 1353, 23 late.

I have not observed every working of QF55 since its 2018 introduction but the domestic sector 'tag flight' may well be a first.

QF2133, the 1620 hours CBR - MEL on Victorian public holiday Thursday 28 September (Q400 VH-LQQ) was in the sky at 1705 with suggested arrival 1813 hours, 38 minutes late.

I thought about that however the photo was taken by friend at around 0915. QF55 was a 2pm. Plus the A380 in the background led me to assume it was not the additional tag flight adding to additional lounge lizards but a delayed A380 (as it turned out I was wrong).

Saturday 29 September has seen QF16 from LAX to BNE arrive 32 late at 0637, but this should not delay QF15 as it is not scheduled to push back until 1010 hours.

In more on Saturday 29 September, QF79, the 0910 hours from MEL up to NRT departed 94 late at 1044 so arrival has been put back to a suggested 2003 tonight, 88 late.

QF127 from SYD to HKG was 27 late away at 1102 so arrival is likely at 1830, half an hour behind.

One I missed yesterday - QF27, the 1135 hours late morning B744 from SYD across to SCL - departed 63 late, arriving at 1157, 47 late. 'The 28' was 57 late in pushing back at 1427 hours from SCL so SYD arrival on Saturday is a claimed 1750, an hour behind.

On Saturday 29, QF63 (1055 hours SYD - JNB, B744 VH-OEH) had been diplaying this morning as a forecast only 20 late in pushing back, but this became a 1231 hours takeoff so arrival is likely at 1812, 72 late. QF64 tonight, the 1910 hours redeye back to SYD will be delayed.

Saturday 29 September's QF128 from HKG to SYD, the 2000 hours departed 40 minutes late with Sunday 30 arrival likely at 9733, 38 late.

QF36 from SIN to MEL was 54 late off blocks at 2109 with suggested arrival 35 late at 0610.

The PEK - SYD QF108 was bang on time pushing back at 2345 but a 1351 hours afternoon arrival (ex PEK) in SYD is expected, 31 minutes tardy.

Doubtless with some happy West Coast supporters on board, the Sunday 30 September 2018 QF485 (A333 VH-QPH), the 0905 hours, took off at 1031 so arrval is delayed until an expected 1213 hours, 58 minutes late.

Saturday night's 2140 hours B789, QF49, from MEL to SFO has been delayed until an estimated 1500 hours on Sunday 30 in its departure. This means a suggested 1200 'high noon' arrival in SFO on Sunday instead of 1900 in the early evening of Saturday.

B789 VH-ZNE arrived in MEL on QF10 (ex LHR and then PER) at 1946, nine minutes early on Saturday night so it may then have failed. It has not carried any passengers since last night.

QF50 ex SFO on Sunday night (for a Tuesday morning timetabled MEL arrival) may well also be delayed but the QF site is yet to reflect that.

QF61 BNE NRT returning to Brisbane shortly due to lightning strike.

donovan301, you posted this 24 minutes ago but the aircraft (A333 VH-QPE) that had become airborne until 0949 did not turn around to return to BNE until a few minutes ago, when it was northeast of Townsville.

A quick back-of-the-envelope guess suggests it may land back down in BNE at around 1340 hours.

QF80 therefore (or maybe QF62) will be hours late, but given the curfew restrictions about which Himeno always reminds, departure from NRT may not be possible until tomorrow night (and nor may departure from BNE be available until tomorrow morning). Not that I want to get ahead of events.

There'll be other problems too such as the crew being out of hours, but subject to Himeno's advice, the curfew is probably the most important reason for a further significant delay.

Like other mainline Oz - Japan operators JL and NH, the QF Japan flights are normally punctual (in contrast to its QF23 SYD - BKK).

The previously noted QF49 overnight delay ( departure ex MEL for SFO should be soon, at 1500 on Sunday 30 September) is also adversely affecting QF50, the timetabled 2200 hours Saturday 29 SFO to MEL.

It should depart instead at 1320 on Sunday (local time) with projected MEL arrival as 2120 hours on Monday night, 1 October instead of 0630 hours bright and early that day.

On Sunday 30, QF1584, the 1245 hours HBA up to SYD (VH-NXE) was in the sky at 1402 so should arrive at 1537, 62 minutes tardy.

Qantas is now showing the rescheduled 29/9 QF49 as cancelled. I am sitting here in San Francisco with no idea what us going on now as I was expecting to depart tomorrow lunchtime on the very delayed QF50. Very annoyed with QF at the moment as I suspect this flight was never going to operate and if In had known this would taken a re route which did involve a 2 cabin downgrade.

bcworld, sorry to hear of your situation. Few would like to be in same. Very peeving to put it politely. Worst must be absence of certainty.

If it's not too much trouble, please let us all know how you get on: whether rebooked and onto what flight and carrier, bus transfers to an hotel, which one, meals included or daily allowance - if so how much - and how long it took to get you allocated an hotel at the airport if that applies.

If QF isn't rebooking you on its flights there are some other routings available such as SFO - SIN - Oz on SQ, or to SIN on UA; SFO - MNL - OZ on PR; SFO - ICN - Oz on KE or OZ (plus UA as far as ICN) and of course via Japan to name a few.

I wonder if you'll be booked on an AA flight down to LAX and then a QF one?

If you are royally mucked around, I'm told that placing an assertive (though not rude) comment on the QF Facebook site is one at times allegedly effective option.

After 80 mins on hold this morning I was offered two options.

1. Stay on the rescheduled QF50 in J (award)
2. Reroute SFO-LAX-MEL in Y (with partial points refund)

I was offered zero assistance with accommodation or other logistics. I was simply told I could book a hotel and submit a claim for consideration.

Wait times seem even more ridiculous at the moment so I'm waiting for the call back service.

The latter (lack of help with an hotel) is very poor, but if I recall QF typically reimburses up to $250 a night. Others who have had experience of such a cancellation (I have not) will know whether that includes meals, or whether reasonable cost for meals (say $50 for dinner, less for lunch) may be reimbursed. They may reimburse one drink but - fair enough - not additional ones.
