Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Update on 2081.

Won't leave at the earliest until 5.30pm (was due out at 2pm)

QF technical expert on their way from Mel on next flight to check starboard engine.

Sitting at the bar in the departure lounge, it's parked right outside the window and a man and ladder there prodding. My visual inspection through the bottom of my beer glass says it's ok. Hah, if I can see through the bottom of to glass it must need a refill.

The Melbourne Airport website claims that QF94 'from LAX and BNE' has been cancelled.

However the QF website suggests that QF93, the timetabled 1115 hours MEl - LAX is departing at 1730 late this afternoon with same day arrival in the United States estimated at 1235 hours, 360 minutes late. This may be somewhat optimistic. It is still showing as an A388 on FR24 so I assume that VH-OQC must be flying down from BNE to MEL at say 1345 hours or so ex BNE, but may be doing so without passengers. Further advice on this from other AFF members would be great.

Ferry. 6005, out of Brisbane at 1300.

QF2081 Mildura to Mel delayed after the inbound flight hit a bird. Aircraft Awaiting inspection. I'll go buy another Stella while I wait for it.

BAM1748, you may need another two or three beers (and perhaps you could change to a locally made brand like Coopers, Cascade, Carlton or Tooheys - although all of these bar Coopers are foreign owned) as the displays indicate that departure of QF2081 from MQL is not expected until 1730 hours. That gives one the impression that a LAME may have to come up from Melbourne. Happy travels!

QF6005 (A388 VH-OQC) landed in MEL at 1549 hours, so that will make its departure as QF93 (MEL - LAX) more likely at around the 1800 hours mark, 465 minutes late.

The delayed QF19 (1225 hours SYD - MNL) departed at 1409, while a separate A330 flight, QF5, the second of the day's SYD to SIN offerings is expected to depart tonight at 2130 hours, 285 minutes late, meaning SIN arrival at 0245 hours on Saturday 11 instead of 2155 hours tonight.

The SYD - JKT scheduled 1355 hours departure, QF41 is mostly punctual but on 10 November it was airborne at 1555 hours. A332 VH-EBG should arrive at 1836, 66 minutes late.

QF37, the second MEL - SIN flight today should depart 65 minutes late at 1830 hours.

A332 VH-EBR on QF1303 (1245 hours lunchtime BNE down to MEL that took off at 1340) should pull in to its allocated airport gate on Friday 10 November at 1644 hours, 44 minutes late. It's not impossible that VH-EBR is the A332 for QF37 to SIN.

Departed 1257 - amazing what you can do without pax!!
I don’t know that it was scheduled to go at 1300...I just rounded out the 1257 time. Most likely a case of the crew going as soon as they could, with no hard time. I expect they’d have had to come up from Sydney.

Adding to Friday 10 November, QF473 (1445 hours mid afternoon SYD down to MEL) was cancelled. I cannot see any balancing cancellation northbound but perhaps it was missed.

Terrific photo BAM1748.

The delayed QF2081 departed MQL at 1733 and should arrive MEL at about 1841 hours on 10 November.

As predicted above, QF93 is further delayed to an expected 1800 hours departure.

UPDATE: QF11 departed MEL at 1811 hours, 416 minutes late. Same day LAX arrival is forecast for 1305 hours, 330 minutes behind schedule. This should not affect the late evening flight(s) QF94 or QF12 back to MEL (or SYD) given the many hours that the aircraft is timetabled to stay on the ground in Los Angeles, but it will mean that passengers on QF93 connecting to JFK are transferred to QF partner AA as QF11's B744 across the USA should long have departed by 1300 hours LAX time.

As surmised above, VH-EBR is the A332 for QF37 (1725 hours MEL - SIN) but instead of departing at 1830 hours, it took off at 1924 (about 100 minutes late) so it will be quite tardy into the Lion City. QF38, the 2355 hours ex SIN returning flight has been changed to depart at a suggested 0105 hours on 11 November.

Another Singapore-bound flight, QF5 (timetabled at 1645 hours ex SYD, A332 VH-EBM) took off at 2121; arrival should be at the unexciting time for all but shiftworkers of 0245 hours on Saturday 11 instead of 2155 tonight. QF5 was VH-EBM's first duty for the day so it may have been under repair earlier. As a result QF6, the late night 2340 hours ex SIN back down to SYD is predicted to depart at the unpleasant time of 0350 hours on 11 November.

QF635 (1755 from BNE down to MEL, B738 VH-VYE that took off at 1846) should pull in to its gate at approximately 2155 hours, 40 minutes down.

A332 VH-EBP on QF149, the early evening 1925 hours from SYD across to AKL was not airborne until 2126. Suggested arrival is 0210 hours on Saturday 11, 105 minutes behind the schedule.

Thursday 9's QF94 from LAX to MEL departed at 2233 hours, 28 late; on Saturday 11 November, it should arrive at 0930 hours, half an hour behind. On recent observations this may slightly delay QF93 back to LAX tomorrow morning, the 1116 hours.

Due to yesterday's late QF37, the QF38 SIN - MEL redeye should arrive on Saturday 11 at about 1141 hours, 71 minutes late. A332 VH-EBR is the aircraft.

QF6 is worse, as QF5 was even more late yesterday. QF6 (A332 VH-EBM) from SIN to SYD should arrive at roughly 1434 hours this afternoon, 234 minutes late.

Thank you jb747. I corrected the first one to 'QF38' not 'QF6.' Apologies.

Also QF6 should now be in a little earlier, at around 1423 hours not 1434.

Continuing with Saturday 11 November, QF117, the 1135 hours SYD - HKG has been cancelled. So has QF118, the 2015 hours redeye back to SYD. As Flyerqf previously informed us, these flights are normally a B744 not an A333 (though on Tuesdays an A388 is rostered.)

Advice from any travellers as to on what alternative flight they have been booked (CX?) would be good.

QF612 (B738 VH-VZS, the 1010 hours MEL - BNE) took off at 1110; arrival should be at 1210 hours, 50 minutes late.

Something going on with QF1 today? (ex SYD 11th/ex DXB 12th)
Just arrived in DXB on QF2 with QF1 tonight.
Checked the QF app to see it say I've been bumped 24 hours.
MMB says 4 hour delay with DXB departure at 0555 (instead of 0240)

Himeno, the QF website suggests that QF1 is departing SYD on Saturday 11 November at 2130 instead of 1655, arriving DXB at 0430 hours on Sunday 12 instead of just after midnight at 0040. It confirms that you should be departing DXB at 0555 hours, 195 minutes late with LHR arrival on Sunday 12 at 1005 hours instead of 0650. A388 VH-OQE may be your QF1 aircraft.

This has the potential to delay QF10 as it is timetabled to depart London at 1155 hours, just before noon. It is way to early to predict whether or how much of a delay there will be for these DXB and MEL-bound passengers.

Separately, QF8 ex DFW on Friday 10 November is to divert via BNE with an extremely quick stop of 0516 to 0530 (which seems super optimistic) and a SYD arrival on Sunday 12 at 0805, two hours late. This aircraft should be VH-OQJ.

VH-OQL is not in service and is probably in MNL at Lufthansa Technik.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

It's odd that the app and the website say different things (24 hour delay vs 4 hour). With the morning flights gone, the QF staff here at DXB have gone until QF10 check in opens tonight. (I can check in for QF1 when they open for QF10 yes?)

Wonder if it's a tech or crew issue. There have been some A380 crews thrown about the past week for various reasons. Flown up from MEL + rest required before the journey to DXB, perhaps? Just spitballing.

The delayed Saturday 11 November QF1 departed much as QF predicted, at 2138 hours (283 late) with the DXB intermediate stop forecast as 0430 to 0555 (respectively 230 and 195 minutes tardy) - pretty much the minimum observed duration for this stop - and LHR arrival at 1005 hours on Sunday 12, 195 minutes late.

UPDATE: QF has updated the QF1 DXB arrival to become 0515 hours, so the 0555 departure from there is likely to become at least 0640, with LHR arrival presumably 1050 hours or later, thus delaying Sunday 12 November's QF10 back to DXB and MEL.

It is not a given that Monday 13's late evening QF9 will be late as sometimes QF10 picks up time even if it departs LHR an hour late.

Sunday 12's QF63, the 1135 hours from SYD to JNB is suggested as departing 55 minutes late.

Earlier, QF117 from SYD to HKG departed nine minutes late at 0939 with arrival forecast at 1628, 38 minutes late.
