Looking at the Qantas Club entry on Wikipedia, it says, "Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyers are able to access The Qantas Club at any time, regardless of whether they are flying that day."

I'm looking down the barrel of Platinum level, and if it's a barrel of beer (or champagne), that's fine by me.

However I can't find any reference to this on the Qantas site, and either I'm not looking hard enough or it's a furphy, possibly some benefit now reclining comfortably in the nest of the dodo.

It's true...I remember reading it in the brochure.

Cheers,
- Febs.

It is true.

The link in the "Ultimate Qantas Guide" (sticky) to "Lounge access at a glance" no longer works, but it used to show that Platinums had access at any time.

Looks like that webpage has been removed.

A PDF version of that webpage I took in 2005 is attached.

Note that Qantas Club rules allow them to deny entry and/or remove pax for any reason they choose. Something that has been exercised before...

Statistically, I am sure I visit my local Qantas Club more often as a non-flyer than when I am flying. Its a great benefit, and you can still take in guests when not flying.

Personal experience ? :p

it is still clearly stated on the QF website ( Flying with Us - Qantas Club - Benefits )

"When visiting an international Qantas Club lounge, you are able to invite one guest each time you visit. Both you and your guest need to be travelling together further that day on a Qantas or British Airways flight. Platinum Frequent Flyers and their guest are welcome in the lounge, even when not travelling on Qantas or British Airways."

The above link is accessible from "flying with us -> Qantas Club"

That seems pretty straightforward for International lounges, where you've got to be travelling somewhere just to get airside. But what about Domestic lounges, where all I need do is go through security?

I have several versions of the QF WP guide in my possession and the actual text in relation to domestic access in this regard varies with each edition, the only constant being one of being non specific or vague in this regard.

As far as practice goes (and to put it basically) QF WP's can visit a domestic QP anytime! (at least for the time being)

Now don't go giving them any ideas for enhancements..................

Well my employer has put me on Virgin as few times (not Deathstar yet:D ) and the QANTAS club has gratefully supplied me with some nice HPs and the like.

That was one of the nice features of the Ansett Golden Wing lounge - access at any time even when not flying.

I have, however, accessed MEL and BNE domestic QP's while waiting for colleagues.

I agree - I remember reading it in the brochure in the heady days of WP status. Now I'm just a SG on the way down. My youngest daughter is a SG on the way up and recently we talked her way in to SYD T2 lounge as my wife and I were waiting for flight back to ABX. But the Lounge dragon was the charmable type. Would that my daughter had been Plat.

Like all things even if the rules say otherwise in practice things can be different.

If you whip out your card and head straight to the quick check machines the assumption is you are about to get a boarding pass.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
