Can the holder of a Qantas Club partner card invite 1 guest into the club if that guest has a boarding card with a QF flight number?

Yes, the QC partner card member has the same full entitlements as the primary card member

So if I have an existing QP "life" ( no longer available as a new issue) and want a partner card, would I be able to match? On some grandfathering arrangement maybe?

Not sure on that. My partner's card has later expiry month for same 2 year membership (joined up at different times), but was told when renewing, partner card could not be renewed for longer term than primary (makes sense). Why not ask Qantas your question directly?
