Qantas Club / Admirals Club Access

At PHX you are using what was until a little while ago one of three USair clubs.

The staff of these legacy clubs have not gotten used to the fact they are now working in an Admiral's Club and rules are different.

I am not sure the USair clubs even had drink chits before the merger.

I second all of that. If anyone intends using former USAir Admiral Club lounges, they should take written access right info. Might be better now, but 4 months ago several of those lounges ( especially PHX) were clueless about QP and Qantas in general.

Might be onto something. While it was mid morning, when I was at a PHX AC (formerly USair club) a month ago, I was not given any drink chits, although I was not after a drink so did not ask for one. Entered as SG rather than QP member.

I did wonder if it might be connected to the US/AA merger. The main PHX lounge is being renovated, and the lounge I used was tiny. The staff were adamant that the computer indicates if drink vouchers are due, and the computer said I was entitled to zero, and that LAX T4 had been incorrect to give me them.

Like another poster on this thread, I thought the vouchers might be because QC does not charge for drinks, but have wondered about what they may be used for. At LAX, I asked for orange juice and was given a bottle of orange and mango for which they took a voucher, and it has always taken a voucher to get a bottle of water, so they are needed for some non-premium drink options too.

I think they also have chilled water available from a water dispenser? (my memory is a bit hazy) Hence the charge for bottled water.

Probably. I go for the bottle to take onto the plane when I don't have my bottle to refill. The voucher requirement doesn't bother me so long as I understand the rules, especially as I am not a frequent drinker so often only want soda or juice. I do object to being refused when I thought I was entitled to something, though.

Understand. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually get rid of the drink chit system (at least while they have an open bar). Water and juice is of course a valid exception.

The Chit system is a legacy of up to around four years ago where before that, only sodas and a few other non alcoholic options from over the bar were complimentary.

The water 'urn' is often flavored with a few slices of lemon ...

DFW lounge, given 1 voucher
DCA lounge, refused voucher, told that they are only given when connecting to an international flight.

Me thinks AA needs to figure out their rules and alert all staff to them, as they are ruining goodwill by having different explanations and rule interpretations in different places.

I think we're still pretty lucky to have AAdmirals Club access - never mind the provision of a drink chit or not!

While the inconsistency of the rules might be frustrating, with the exception of selected soft drinks, I'm not sure there's too much of a downside with an open bar anyway.

Just wanted to advise that I was able to access (on 12 Nov 2015) the TBIT Qantas/OW lounge flying LAX>SYD on QF (but AA code) using an 30 day Admirals Membership (1 member + 1 guest). Was actually advised to go there by an AA lounge agent in the AAT4 lounge - which was a surprise as last time I spoke with AA they denied there was a Qantas lounge in the TBIT :-|

It's good that the lounge staff now recognise access for Admirals Club Members. Hopefully they will now also recognise that QC members can also enter (as long as flying onwards on a QF code)
