I am frustrated to learn that my Qantas Silver Lifetime Frequent Flyer membership does not include access to the Qantas Club.

I bought Lifetime Silver Frequent Flyer membership in 1995 at considerable cost.

I am now retired and generally travel to Europe each year.

Since I bought the membership I have always had access to the Qantas Club (and my wife as a complementary guest, even when flying economy and generally also with partner airlines).

However, late last year I was informed access was limited to one complementary pass per annum, which means only one of us can go to the club when we travel overseas.

I understand the current terms and conditions, are as described on the Qantas website, apply to someone joining today.

However, these are not the terms and condition at the time when I joined. Unfortunately I cannot demonstrate the gradual changes in access that have occurred.

Does anyone have documentary evidence to show that the Qantas Silver Frequent Flyer membership in 1995 did include access to the Qantas Club?

Sincerely

Peter

Solution
Hi Peter, I think you might be confusing two separate aspects of the Qantas program. Lifetime Silver – as far as I know – has never been able to be bought. It is a status that you earn from an accumulation of status credits over the life of your frequent flyer account (7000 status credits). I earned Lifetime Silver myself in 2014 and recently earned Lifetime Gold (14,000 status credits).

When earning frequent flyer status, both Gold and Platinum allow unlimited lounge access along with a guest, while Silver has afforded a single lounge pass each year for one person.

Qantas Club on the other hand is able to be bought for 1, 2 or 4 years and for a period of time a long time ago, for life. I believe you are more likely to have bought a...
mine came courtesy of Life time Flight deck club and I seem to recall that was about $2,000.00 or so back in 1988

Post number 17 of this thread: TIP: Qantas Club Life Membership confirms the prices for lifetime flight deck (which became Qantas Club) at around $600 in the 80s. I actually remember it being $400, so maybe that might have been 85 rather than 88. It was a limited offer. But at the time, a lot of money!

To rehash other points already made in this thread:

- Lifetime Silver has never been available to purchase.
- The ability to earn lifetime Silver only became available in 2001.
- In 1995 Life Time Qantas Club could be purchased.
- Are you sure it was not Lifetime Qantas Club that you purchased in 1995?

If indeed you did purchase lifetime Qantas Club in 1995 then you were incorrectly informed late last year. (Do note that internationally, other than the USA, there are relatively few lounges a Qantas Club member can access.)

Thanks for your experience and knowledge. I must be mistaken.

Peter, why don't you just call QF and ask them to clarify what your membership is?

Everything suggests you STILL have lifetime Qantas Club membership that you purchased in 1995 and that's irrelevant to any earned status (ie your life time silver). I mean I am sure that one of the very few life time platinums also have lifetime QC(an amusing combination).

The only confusing part of the story for me is you mentioned having a QC card that expired at the end of 2019.

I can think of no explanation that fits this scenario EXCEPT.

What if you had a four year Qantas Club membership. You renewed that for some years until whenever QF decided that when status hit Gold and above that QC membership would be put "on hold" until status dropped back down.. you mentioned doing a lot of flying that you had many years of Gold and Platinum. So let's say 2015 you then finally fell back down the status tree to Silver and your membership was reactivated thus giving you the remaining years? That MAY explain that.

Either way I am sure calling Qantas should straighten this out, if logging into your account page (as suggested above) doesn't make it clear.
