I'm travelling QFLink today, but I think the Q400 is leather right?

I guess the trick is getting something that will last the distance of how many thousand bums in its lifetime? It's not like your car seat where you're in shorts, most people are in trousers, right? All I remember was being told an emergency slide was like sandpaper so I should wear trousers, plus lounge access dress code :p

So you'll find most premium airlines will do cloth on long-haul because it breathes better over time, however long-term maintenance costs on leather are significantly lower (wipes clean).
Interestingly, JQ were actually one of the first low-cost airlines to do leather in economy, and now it's taken off across most LCCs.
QF actually have leather in business on their domestically configured A330's - but cloth everywhere else (except for headrests, where leather has largely replaced the traditional headrest covers (antimacassar).

I am a nerd.

In Britain, the move to leather was led by locos including Jersey European and Ryanair. The disadvantage with leather is the tendency to slide down it - which would make it quite unsuitable for the (almost) obsolete angle flat business class seats that some airlines used.

There are some vegan extremists ( a minority) who won't sit on leather sofas, won't wear leather shoes etc. What do they do when confronted with a leather airline seat?

Are those actual animal hide leather or some kind of "pleather" substitute ?
Vinyl just would not last very long with repeated use on aircraft. I do know a couple of vegans, but have never asked the question of sitting on leather seats. I am going to ask now though.

Will they be sitting on the seats, or eating them? 😉

It’s OK. I know what a vegan is (including, not using animal products)

Found this and still not 100% on whether it's satire, but make of it what you will.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Had exactly this occur while working for an airline - have had pax either offload themselves (I believed we moved them to another service with different seating). Have also had pax place a blanket between themselves and the seats so that they're not touching the leather.

I didn't dare tell them the aircraft was powered by fossil fuels.

Oh the mental gymnastics in one’s mind
