I've just been looking at availability for 2 x SYD - FCO return (J class) in Apr 2013. What surprised me is that only CX is coming up. Is this likely to be because I have low status or are QF and BA cutting back on award seats.

Regards
David

I thought award availability was at 350 days for Qantas flights and 330 days for most carriers. So in theory you will not any see availability for a few more days yet.

Perhaps I am wrong....

Flights up to 8 April 2013 are showing but like you I thought Qantas flights were generally available earlier than any of the partner airlines.

David if that is the case then I would hazard a guess and say that it must now be 360 days.

FCO is not a Qantas destination which may explain the lack of availability. Have you tried breaking down the journey to see if there is any Qantas availability to SIN/HKG/LHR?

Asl as far as I am aware high tier statuses only have additional availability in economy not business class. So what you are saying should in theory be what is available....

And if you get CX or Finnair quotes, be careful of getting large portions of the flight in Y despite them deducting J points.

I noticed there's now a popup, beside the flight listing, that indicates if part of the trip is not in business.

I have just booked a QF classic award in J SYD to BKK for March 2013. Cathay flights were available to book several days before the QF became available. I had been checking for several weeks and it was always the same. Cathay was available before QF.

Flights for the days (actually, almost weeks) I had to travel never came up. And I started checking well before the general release date, and afterwards until I ended up doing points plus pay. And yes, they tried to charge PE points for Economy seats, with no warning, on the days I tried a dummy booking. That was July last year. At least that has changed.
