Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Steaks can be done proper on aircraft- had SQ, EK, JAL and CX do it to perfection in the past but then again, at least CX and JAL have also managed to give me shoesole crisp on different occasion.

Safest bet to counter the potential dryness is providing some kind of sauce or, better even, Fois Gras :p

Ironically the worst steak I have ever had on a plane was cooked perfectly medium rare in Qantas First out of Los Angeles. It tastes of horrendous, poor quality US beef.

I’d rather a medium well piece that doesn’t taste like the cow was disease ridden. FWIW I think Qantas international meals are quite good usually, the repetition has just become boring.

Not QF, but speaking of steaks, I had this steak on CX472 a few weeks ago - it was pretty legit and tasted excellent for a plane meal (and on a barely >1.5hr flight too!)

It was prime Australian beef tenderloin too.

Just the diamond char on the steak itself made it look immediately better than the below I got on QF29 a few years ago (which, minus the typical presentation on QF, was also surprisingly good too):

Not sure I can get my head around how small that QF steak appears to be.

QF1278 (QantasLink) MEL-BNE dep 2105 (sched, ATD was about 65 min late) op National Jet a/c 223 (yes, I got that code wrong in my previous post)

Choices were between mushroom tortellini with tomato sugo or a chicken salad. Selecting the tortellini would have been a safe choice, but given the time at night, I decided to opt for the hopefully lighter salad. The salad was served with two slices of warmed sourdough, Pepe Saya butter and a coconut tea cupcake. I went for drinks of Coke No Sugar and sparkling water; no alcohol for me as I had to drive later.

The salad is an odd name for the dish. It was essentially cold sliced roast chicken, served with a red hummus, cherry tomatoes, corn, kidney beans and sweet potato, dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. Altogether, it was a light and tasty dish. The hummus is nice to spread on the bread to eat. I think the hummus has a bit of a spicy kick to it (either that or emptying a whole packet of black pepper on the dish did it). The chicken was a bit dry, but that's very much expected. Eating it with the hummus and/or vinaigrette gives it the moisture it needs to be more enjoyable. The vinaigrette had a nice sour kick to it, which I liked.

CSM Despina was efficient and pleasant, particularly for running the last flight of the day, which can feel like drudgery at times. She constantly monitored the cabin to clear dishes or trays, offer top ups or further drinks.

Unfortunately, I messed up this flight. I was in 2F and I had to disturb 2D to get up to use the bathroom. 2D placed his drink and soft drink can on the armrest coughtail table, then leaned into the aisle for me to slide out and step over. Being a big person, I should have seen this coming. My backside brushed and knocked over the remaining can of ginger beer of my neighbour on his seat, along with my empty glass of lemon and ice onto my seat. An absolute complete mess up, and did I ever feel bad, apologising again and again. The damage was assessed at slightly on 2D's cardigan (minimised) and our seats with liquid. Despina came fairly quickly with paper towels and cleaned up the liquid. My neighbour was surprisingly very calm - I was expecting an exasperation at best and a demand for a dry cleaning bill payment at worst. "It's OK - it was an accident". Bless that man.

Despina (after cleaning everything up): "Would you like anything else?"
Me: "No, I think I've shown I better stay away from liquids!"

I never order prawns, so unsure why I did now! But they were absolutley fantastic, best dish of the 63/64 there and back combo by a while. Bread and leaves both a 'meh'

Fish Thai green curry was good, a good kick in it for those who arent keen on that to be aware of

Half eaten Child special request, J meal, the pasta was actually really really good, entree were some vegetable stick etc, similar to QF63

Trifle for dessert, solid:

Brekky had the salmon, pretty average, the polenta underneath was dry. Muesli and fruit were alright

Overall a good flight and good crew

QF994 SYD-HBA, 19/11/25, 1930 scheduled departure

Options were filo pastry with spinich and ricotta (I think?) or a cheese plate. Went the pastry, it was pretty soggy and uninteresting, should have had the cheese plate. Bread was rock solid on the bottom
