Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Too much and some would be pesto off. 🙂
I don't tend to follow the VA J catering thread, but it just got my attention, it appears to be chalk and cheese how bad QF J catering is - QF seems okay when it's okay, but it seems it generally isn't!

Had a special request vegetarian meal on my most recent trip. QF71 on the way out was pretty decent, included a cous-cous salad with some charred vegetables and a lemon-y sauce. Followed by a yellow Thai curry for main. It was an enjoyable meal.

QF72 coming back a week later was...not great. Food was OK, but the meal was once again a victim of extraordinarily slow service in the J cabin. Whether they have not enough staff or not enough equipment on the A332s I don't know, but it just takes forever. We pushed back at 8pm, and I wasn't eating until well after 10pm. The entree for this flight was a Greek salad, which looked like the green leaves plus a few extra bits. I wasn't super impressed at the choice, but the salad itself was nice enough. Then the mains was some sort of potato + Mexican chili concoction that was OK.

No photos unfortunately. Normally I don't bother with requesting the vegetarian meal as there are enough vegetarian options on the international flights for Qantas. However, as I was connecting to/from flights with JAL I didn't want to take that chance. Next time I wouldn't bother with the JAL request, their vegetarian breakfast meal options were not inspiring - I'd rather just get the extra sleep.

My run of terrible meals continued last night on QF1210 MEL-CBR.

Once again, there was one choice, and one choice only. It was Peppered Wagyu Beef Pie with mash. This is exactly how it was served - with the crust all broken off. Once again, no bread, no leaves, no hot drink option. And that poor lonely Lindt ball 😆.

The filling of the pie was OK, but nothing more. The pastry was simultaneously dry and soggy, and the mash was not good. Honestly, this is really shabby two flights in a row. What on earth is going on with QF Inflight catering??

Fortunately, I had already eaten a bowl of absolutely delicious eggplant, noodles and broth in the Spice Bar, so I just pushed this around my plate and ate the chocolate.

That looks truly unappetising. Curious - did you decline an offer of sauce / relish etc or was none offered?

The look of the pie rings a bell.
I travelled ADL-MEL last week on a lunchtime service.
I had similar , again no choice .
The pastry was tastless and dry -the contents included carrot, peas and minimal meat .
The accompaniment was mashed potato.
No tomato sauce was boarded.
I just can't believe that QF makes such little effort to offer edible meals on business class meal time flights.
To be fair, the chocolate was good.

Looks like you at least got bread and butter.

"If we have the canteen steak pie, we'll all be here all night!" - Mr Humphries, "The Clock", Are You Being Served

A decent pie can make a good mini meal... but yeah, they gotta at least try!

Can't be that hard to source and put a little tub of tomato relish by Beerenberg per tray. Yeesh.

I wonder when they cater with only one choice vs two choices vs three choices. As reported upthread somewhere, I flew during a refreshment service on the same sector (afternoon) and got two choices (and I was sitting in the last row of J). On first looks, both would have been better than said pie and mash.
