Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Never seen crumpets on board. Really that's a main?
Last time I flew QF int J, the sourdough crumpet was part of the breakfast selection.

I thought it was delicious, though two is a light main course IMO. After adding condiments and another slice of bread / pastry, I can see its place, but if you were hankering for the eggs and they ran out before you.....

SYD-MEL “lunchtime” flight
I usually travel Domestic in the evenings so u must have missed the memo that lunch flights (12:15 departure) are now “snack only” services so I was quite disappointed by the choice of “tandoori pie” or “antipasto plate”. Both are awfully inadequate for a business class flight, even a short one on the triangle. Pie was, as expected, horrific and not properly heated through and for some strange reason, Qantas seems to think that serving it with the greens from hell (rocket, almost as bad as pumpkin 🤢🤢🤢) makes it somehow “more premium”. Staff was delightful though as usually on Qantas and filled me up with white wine and that surprisingly tasty Aussie whiskie that they have as of late.

MEL-CHC dinner flight:
Lovely flight though I loathe the 737 on those trans-Tasman routes. The jet connect crew in this case made the flight and despite the rather boring meal, it was still enjoyable. Gone are the days when you got a “proper” international meal on the Tasman, no printed menu anymore and the usual Domestic slob. In this case, it was “Pumpkin Lasagna” (yes, that’s apparently a thing) which looked as awful as it sounded. Unfortunately, the otherwise delightful Asian origin flight attendant looking after us struggled to pronounce English properly (which begs the question why in hell they’d employ someone with bad English skills for flights over the Tasman ) so the “puumin” part was lost on many of the other guests. As far as I could see, none of them finished their meal which was to be expected.

Not that my choice, the apparently “Marrocan” beef stew was any better- I guess it had pearl barley with raisins on the side which, in Qantas mind, seems to be similar to Couscous… Or something? The stew itself was truly awful and had the cheapest offcuts of beef one could find in the sell out section of the abattoir. At least the salad on the side was quite nice and I enjoyed the small tub of ice cream later as well.
