Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Didn’t mind the lamb and potatoes this eve. This was a new post 5pm meal. Was a tricky arvo for flying with lots of delays outside of QF controls.

For those on here that aspire to a job with lots of corporate travel, just a reminder to be prepared to give up days of your life throughout the year for airline delays and general travel delays and miss events. People on here are way too quick to critique and give opinions without walking the walk.

I find some of the comments on here quite insensitive to those that actually are truly road warriors and are out there multiple times a week dealing with the challenges. It’s all about perspective I guess

From last week: QF 27 SYD-SCL.
IMG_3111.jpeg

Service started not long after a picture perfect fly past of south head (yes, I can see my house from here - just to the left of center 😁).
IMG_3118.jpeg

The now ubiquitous arancini and margarita (the later comes out of a tin but actually not too bad - we had way too many on a recent trip to SIN on the onboard lounge on QF1 😉).
IMG_3119.jpeg

I’d had the salmon entree before - it’s actually quite large and could easily pass as a cold salad as a main if not super hungry.

IMG_3121.jpeg

The wines were odd. Whites included a chardy and a rose! Rose, white? Reds were a Shiraz and a Jim Barry Cab Sav - which was quite good when it eventually appeared after the unfortunately over reheated (again) beef - but that also tasted ok.
IMG_3122.jpeg

As we descended further south it was time for cheese and leftover wine and the remaining 5 hrs of Oppenheimer…

Ugh I am a big fan of Pepe Saya products, and I think I missed out yesterday..

QF29 MEL-HKG 24/2/24

Delayed by 2.5 hrs whilst waiting in the lounge.

The flight itself was excellent. Very attentive crew. The food was also very good. No complaints about any of it to be honest.

It was only a snack today on the 1.30pm SYD - MEL (I thought they did lunch until 2pm flights, or have they changed again? I'd have eaten a bit more at the lounge if I knew that...)

Choices were the usual reuben sandwich, mushroom soup or cheese plate. Cheese plate itself was fine, but not including knives with anyone's meals made the cheese plates (and bread for everyone) a bit of a challenge! Spoons getting a workout today. 😅

In your steak photo, is that a big disc of butter or a very small steak?

It’s quite a lot of butter that doesn’t melt quickly - or at all from memory! (See my QF27 post also).

The disc of butter is decent, generous and delicious. It was about 4cm in diameter, the steak 5.5cm in diameter. My biggest critique would be that the steak was overcooked (not pink / medium rare), but still tender and warm enough to melt the butter.

The butter portion could have been smaller. I ended up letting the rest it it melt on the roast potatoes.

My partner had the pork and tofu meatballs which he also thought were pretty good. No pic sorry.

QF781 MEL-PER on Friday night. The round kofta was delicious, but half of the potatoes were mushy. I had to ask for the bread roll to be heated, but it then tasted good. The cake looked soggy, the bottom of the box very wet from defrosting: I didn’t eat it. I asked for a pack of the rice crackers and cheese from Y to finish my meal.

Errr... - what's with the breakfast fruit salad on an evening flight? 🤔

And the bun in a cellophane bag is also weird.

What happened to 'bakery' with butter? (Not that I ever bother with that, so just curious.)

Or is this a special meal?

International Business menu change incoming! 1st March. Pretty much across all ports. Although this is a business menu thread, there is a menu change in Y ex Australia and some overseas ports too.

It has all the indications of a special meal (plastic wrapped bread, milk in a container, margarine not butter)

Do you have a source?

They revamped QFi middle of last year with some noticeable improvements. Any hints of things for better or worse up front?

Yes, gluten free meal, which is combined with lactose-free. Fruit salad is dessert. My other gripe is that on international flights, it’s about time the standard menu was marked G/F where applicable rather than chicken being served nearly all the time.

QF79 MEL-NRT last week. Genuinely enjoyed the meal and drinks service. Paired the food with Duval-Leroy NV champagne, Kirin beer (albeit too warm), then moved my way through various SA and WA whites and reds (at this point I had forgotten where from), and finished with a muscat from SA. The salmon starter was delicious. Partner had chicken skewers (not photographed) - absolutely moreish and the highlight of the day. Ramen nice too. Cheese platter and ice cream cookies. After a few hours, a further meal - pork and cupcake (separate, fortunately) just before descent. Fantastic service from the crew.

But oh my - having not flown QF international Y for a while (or QF international more broadly) - it was very difficult coming back home the other day in QF80 NRT-MEL in Y. I know it is off topic, but the food was inedible. Flavourless slop served in tiny plastic trays with no sides. Dirty tray tables and seats. Impersonal and cold service - seems FAs who probably would not have passed muster for JQ pre-COVID are now standard fare on QF Y. So unprofessional. Highlight was FA dropping cutlery on floor and then simply picking it up and putting it back on my meal tray next to opened food. QF international Y catering makes EK Y look like First Class. Has confirmed if I am to fly QFi, it will only be in J, cannot do QFi Y ever again.
