Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF1508 CBR-SYD
18:40 departure

Short flight so only one meal option available - kung pao chicken with cashew nuts and fried rice.

I love kung pao chicken so I was actually excited when the flight attendant told me what was on the menu - something that hasnā€™t happened for me on QF for a while. This one wasnā€™t quite authentic but I still enjoyed it.

Looks tasty, hopefully my stars will align one day!

QF648 PER-SYD 2E now.

Not impressed. No pre-lunch drinks. Drinks carts were set up as usual, but there they satā€¦ and sat.

But, strangely, the FAs serving the starboard side quite early set off down towards the back carrying about four glasses of sparkling wine.

When the CSM, serving my side, eventually got to me, I queried why we were going straight to serving lunch. Some tale about the brake on one cart and some seat power not working. šŸ™„

When I asked why some pax had been delivered glasses of wine, she claimed to know nothing about it, offering that ā€œit might have been for some VIPs in whYā€. WTF? Doesnā€™t she know what her minions are doing? šŸ˜³

Anyway, choice of fish (hoki) in hollandaise sauce, which was OK, some sort of chicken salad and some sort of hot chicken.

Plus the usual Things in a Box and Wrapper. šŸ¤¢

All in all, pretty damned ordinary.

So economy passengers were served business class drinks before business class passengers? Hmmm.

Iā€™ve never had Hoki with Hollandaise sauce, has Neil lost the plot?

Considering you could have paid upwards of $5k for the flight I think itā€™s a cough outcome.

Note for AJ - the punters still want value!

Thatā€™s exactly what I said to PJM. She chose the fish but ended up eating almost none of it.

Given that this is part of my birthday gift surprise to PJM as we head to a Great Barrier Reef voyage, Iā€™m still feeling p!ssed off.

Fortunately the flights are Rewards.

As Iā€™ve said before, the QF b@stards are softening us up that this cr@p is the new normal. šŸ˜”šŸ˜”

So economy passengers were served business class drinks before business class passengers? Hmmm.

I have just confirmed with the FAs that did that drink delivery in the galley as I returned from the loo, that it was supposed ā€˜VIPsā€™ that were indeed in whY that got the special treatment.

I asked ā€œwhat VIPs? - CL?, P1?ā€. They ducked, quoting: ā€˜confidentialityā€™. There was clear discomfort.

I did point out that things like that are noticed by pax that fly a lot and take it seriously - and I pointed out that it was already noted on AFF. Discomfort level elevated visibly at that pronouncement.

On top of all that, I saw the CSM walk past with a bottle of the Lois sparkling wrapped. Pretty obviously to give to someone.

A very fishy flight.

Not happy. šŸ˜”

The same omelette as the way over was on offer so went with the other hot option of scrambled eggs, pork sausage, hash brown, beans and spinach for comparison. A case of something tasting much better than it looked ā€” while the appearance was low rent and reminiscent of the Y breakfast served on AN back in the 90s, it was actually very tasty, especially the bacon infused hash brown. Still would give the edge to the omelette.

This is not just reminiscent of an Ansett economy class breakfast from the 1990s. I was served the same thing, minus the hash brown, in Qantas economy last month flying MEL-CHC! I did not think it was particularly good, although yours does look a bit more appetising than what I was served.

Drinks to Y from J is always a "hush-hush" scenario

Confronting the crew won't achieve anything

Nothing premium about QF anymore except the price tag

That is disgusting
Plastic wine glass or juice (can't tell)
Plastic water bottle

Meal worse than a economy slop meal

This is an economy meal (as described in my post). Scrambled eggs with baked beans, spinach and a sausage. It was served for breakfast on a QF 737 flight from MEL to CHC last month.

My point is that it's basically the same thing that @DrJ was served in business class, minus a hash brown!

Friends of the crew, or off duty crew.

Thatā€™s what I suspect. ā€˜VIPsā€™ was just BS.

But the real issue was that they were not inly taken J drinks immediately the crew prepared the drinks carts, it was also to the exclusion of serving pre-lunch drinks to J pax!

My query of the crew was not confrontational. It began as a discussion about how poor the J meals are these days - to which they agreed and expressed their embarrassment.

That led to me asking about the ā€˜VIPā€™ drinks issue and pointing out that it did not go unnoticed that it had occurred - and made far worse by the J pax getting nothing until the meal service some time later.

That is the issue for me - I actually would not mind if crew gave a J drink to someone in Economy if itā€™s a honeymoon couple or someone else, but of course ONLY after serving all J customers!

Mid-morning snack QF922 SYD-CNS now.

Pancetta, Swiss cheese, pesto warm sandwich. It was OK.

GB swill declined. CSM noted that itā€™s ā€œhit and missā€ with the Lois.

Edit: the other option was a chia ā€˜puddingā€™. Kind of looked like a bowl of porridge with a bit of fruit on top.

Gee, you're 0/2 on decent meals and bubbles in QF J then @JohnM. Not the start to the outbound PER/SYD/CNS you wanted for PJM. Seat 1E, I see ;)

I'd have gone for the "chia pudding". Yummy :D

That very much looks like the same meal. And those "eggs" in both cases look like someone had eaten them before and... šŸ¤¢

Thought as much! I was being kind in my assessment too, as I was in good mood after a successful SYD trip and have come to expect the worst from J catering sadly (so anything better than utter rubbish seems ok!) Still if I had paid full freight J rather than it being a pts upgrade, I would have been pretty miffed.
