This is not good at all. I have a return economy flight SYD-BKK in April/May and if I had known it was an A330 I would not have booked it. There is no way I want to spend 9+ hours in an A330.

Still no email notification of changes so perhaps these flights will be OK.

P.S Why do airlines continue to think that passengers will settle for any changes they will dish up?

I received email for my flights in July and when I rang them I checked on my April/May booking and they said It was still a 747. I return 6 May.

You depart BKK on 6th? If so, then we are on same flight. You are not leaving April 25th by any chance? If so, then I have a spare guest spot into the SYD F Lounge. I have not got around to posting flights for April/May.

I can see you are Qantas Club member but if you want to sample the First Class lounge and even CX lounges then let me know. I have plenty of time on my hands as my girlfriend will leave the airport ~6:00pm to return to Hua Hin.

Qantas were pretty clear when the change to the A330 was going to happen:

Sydney-Bangkok (Boeing 747 replaced with Airbus A330 from 10 June)

Just a matter of time I expect, they've obviously lost interest.

They have lost interest in the BKK to LHR leg because it took 3 aircraft to service the complete route SYD-BKK-LHR. SYD-BKK is 1 aircraft. So don't expect to see SYD-BKK dropped in the immediate future. It is as safe as any Qantas o/s route.

But never so clear from where I am standing. If I am not careful it may turn into a JQ A320 by April :p

Just as well I did not book the 2nd lot of flights for July

I'll agree that it's as safe as any destination that's serviced by a single A330.

I know many would disagree, but the future for Qantas (and the money is to be made) is in medium haul routes within Asia and single hop long haul to America. Long haul to Europe is more or less dead, just look at how many carriers from Europe still fly here, compared to the number of carriers that service both ends from points in between. So more A330's and 787's flying around Asia will be the Qantas of the future.

guess you will switch to Star Alliance now that oneworld have reduced its Australia-Bangkok flying from 2 x 747's per day to a single A330? CX is a very long way around.

cough. Just noticed by boat has changed from B747 to that junk A330-200.
Had those wonderful upper deck exit rows.
When the system auto re-seated me as the ac changed, it stuck me in the centre. Mmmm thanks but no thanks.
I avoid the A330s. Sorry, but I'm just a fan of the B747s.
Oh well, first world problem I guess.

While this might be true, most of the Asian routes expansion have come from Jetstar Asia (3K), and, to a much lesser degree, Jetstar (JQ). Qantas has arguably gone backwards - reduced frequencies to BKK, retimed SIN-SYD day flight to the same time slot as other flights, and PER-NRT has disappeared.

Got it! It would be good to catch up.

I am going BNE - BKK via SYD on 7 July
Looks like we will be there at the same in July as well.

Star Alliance is an an option with US Airways and BMI redemptions. The other option is going to SIN on a 747 or A380 and then head over to BKK on CX.

Unless another cheap sale comes along I would be hesitant to travel SYD-BKK on an A330 especially if it was an A330-200 and not an A330-300.

My booking is showing A330-200 both ways.
Thanks QFi ... those J seats still cost money for some of us and we do tend to pick the product you offer in conjunction with the point-to-point service. I look to avoid Airbus where possible.

What is the essential difference between the -200 and -300 that would make you not choose the -200?

Are they not the same product. To me this highlights that it is a perception issue, considering the 330 and the un-refurbished 747's essentially have the same product in both Y and J.

It is the same with how people are complaining about the 747's being replaced by the 380's.

I thought the new MkII Skybeds were being concentrated on the American Market (LAX, DFW etc)?

In J the upper deck of the 747 is nice and private plus has an excellent toilet to pax ratio.
I find the service is always better upstairs and get a better sleeping experience with less foot traffic in general. Plus it is quieter.

The A330 just doesn't feel the same IMHO.

Very very strange comment re: a330-200 and A330-300, the only difference between them being a bit of length. Does the CX single daily flight on SIN-BKK connect with QF flights to SIN? Seems a strange way to do it, is there a fare that offers that option all on one ticket at a good price? Surely it would be more expensive. Sounds to me like your needs would be better met with Thai Airways now on all counts since BKK appears to be your most flown to destination and Thailand is the home of your girlfriend. They fly nice big 777s and 747s to east coast presently. Why persist with QF? They obviously couldn't give a hoot about Thailand. SQ provide a convenient route to BKK from the East Coast on 777's too (not from brisbane though)

If anything I would be going for the -200 over the -300. The reason being the -200's used internationally I beleive have the newer IFE as found on the A380's. Other than that not much difference from a pax perspective.
