A bit OT probably, but I would be happy if they would return to flying from the Sunshine Coast 'cause then there would be J class back again (managed to put it on topic) and then I wouldn't have to go to Brisbane to catch 'planes and earn ffp's.

But does anyone know why there was a Qantas 737 at the Sunshine Coast airport today?

Strangely, there was also a PacificBlue 'plane there as well.

Any probs with BNE today?

Cheers

Probably this flights from last night:

"QF656 Adelaide 21:05 21:45 Routed via Sunshine Coast"

There were some storms and heavy rain about last night in BNE. Most likely the cause.

The Pacific Blue aircraft "fill in" on DJ domestic sometimes. Just to scare people into thinking they've gotten onto the wrong plane!

MetroAir - you could always buy a Jetflex ticket on Jetstar and collect SC's that way.

I did the maths for me on Mel - Syd and now I always fly with them. 20 SC's each way and lounge access at Syd - There is no lounge at Avalon, in fact you'd struggle to call it a terminal! I happen to live west of Melbourne so it is also nearerand cheaper to park.

It costs me $400 on JQ whereas QF fare is typically $500 for flexible economy

One's milage does very when it comes to this stuff. I live on the other side of the bay from AVV (near Carrum) so MEL it is for me.

Hmmm, I believe MetroAir credits to AA, so a JetFlex fare will do him no good. He's a graduate of the AA Platinum Challenge, a candy stealing exercise  :D

He probably enjoys the quick (early) run down the M1 and Gateway to BNE.

I would have to be dragged kicking, screaming and shackled onto a Death Star aircraft.

As the last six months has seen me putting my feet up at home, I haven't been doing much flying and my AA (lack) of Plat Challenge is due to expire in Feb - but Lindsay is right, points have been going to AA.

MetroAir, tha's fine - you drop to Gold but you can always go and do another Platinum Challenge after 28 February.

Lindsay Wilson I had always assumed one could do the candy stealing exercise only once :?: :?

And that, should things pan out as I am hoping, is exactly what I intend to do!!

Do AA allow you to do multiple Platinum Challenges?

At the moment you can do multiple challenges. It seems though that a lot of the information around the AA challenge is undocumented so it may depend on the interpretation of the CSA you get on the phone when re-enrolling.

AA also allow you (on certain years) to purchase a renewal for your eliteness if you have not requalified.

For anybody who earned Platinum via the Challenge last year, they will be dropped to Gold on 1 March, unless they have earned the re-qualifying level of 50,000 flown miles in 2005.

As you will then be Gold, you can do another AA Plat Challenge. Of course, if you achieve it prior to 30 June, you will only have Plat status until 28 February 2007.

However, if you apply for the Challenge commencing 15 June or later, and achieve prior to 31 December 2006, then you will have Plat status until 28 February 2008.

That's another reason why it's a candy stealing exercise.... :D

 I think (hope) that's not quite correct? (the required completion date of 31 Dec 2006, that is). If it is, then my Plat status will last less than 2 months! I commenced the CT challenge on 16 Dec 05 (first flight actually 27 Dec 05), and completed it on 03 Jan 06. I was under the impression this gave me that status until end Feb 07.

Your Plat status lasts until end Feb 07. If you want to keep it longer than that, you have to requalify by 31st December 06.

I'm not sure where you are getting "Plat status will last less than 2 months" from.

tuapekastar, I can see where you were confused. It's not when you sign up for the Challenge, it's when you achieve it that matters. In your case, I agree with Alan in CBR's :? about the 2 month period. You willl have it until 28 Feb 07, as you and Alan in CBR have confirmed.

Let me re-phrase part of my original answer. One has 3 months to complete the Challenge from commencement. What I said was that you must complete the Challenge by 31 December (obviously) to achieve Plat for the next year.

To achieve in the first half of the year and only have up to 14 months isn't as beneficial (but still better than nothing)

Why anybody would leave achieving Plat until the last month of the year is beyond me, the best time to achieve it is post-15 June (where you can have up to 20 months to enjoy the benefits) - every month delay thereafter reduces the time under Plat.

It all depends on when you find out about the Challenge and when you are flying, as to how you can make best use of the time period for Plat membership.
