I have received my Qantas ultimate card on 100k bonus points and wanted to refer onward to family members, however when I look at the referral it says I get 30k points, but the person who uses the referral only gets 65k? What happened to their 100k points? It is obviously being split. Has anyone else noticed this?

It's not being split. The 100k pt offer ended yesterday so it has simply reverted to 65k pt now.

Ok thanks, it did say it would end 2nd October and the advertising still says that
  • Receive 100,000 bonus Qantas Points when you apply online by 2 October 2017, are approved and spend $1,500 on your new Card within the first 3 months. This offer is available to new Card Members, as well as Bank-issued American Express companion cardholders3

Yes I see you're right. That's strange. My referral link had previously said 28 September.

There is often a difference between what is available via signup on their website compared to on a referral link though so that may be it.

Question for those who were approved instantly! Applied for the card yesterday and once submitted only had a message of "Thank you for applying for the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card."

What does this mean? Approved or just a submission? I have received no emails (nothing in junk either). No request for payslips etc

I had the same with no contact from Amex except today received the card in the mail.

Waiting for my points to sweep across (probably Friday or early next week for me if last month's sweep is anything to go by). Then will just need to make sure I use the travel credit sometime. This offer is very nice.

Sad to say this dropped to 55k points, same annual fee. No end date on offer so off to NAB which is not great value but when you need the points for CX F you do what you need to do....

They can't say it's a time limited offer if it hangs around forever. Presumably it'll only be a matter of time till Amex does another 100k points offer.

I agree, however just have a look at Harvey Norman's limited time sale offers............................................

My wife took it up months ago at 55K points, I took it up wen it was 100K its the luck of the draw.

Got my 100k points last week, first statement after hitting the min spend so all very efficient. Am planning to keep this one as my ongoing Amex card I think, as I would be spending more than $450 a year on qantas flights anyway, so that would offset the $450 annual fee meaning in practice it is fee free and has travel insurance etc. Or am I missing something?

The $450 has to be used in one go (anything left over is forfeit), however you can use it to buy flights for other people.

You'd also need to see if the prices are the same as on qantas.com and if there are any fees etc. e.g. if spending more than the $450.

Yeah I always do a few flights a year that each cost over $450, so using it in one go won't be a problem. The price comment is something I've wondered about, as have never tried booking a qantas flight through amex travel

I haven't used Amex travel either, but will use it and cancel the card probably after I've flown.

Being new to Amex cards, do you see the $450 travel credit when you go online to your account, or you only see it when actually booking and finalising payment of the flight in Amex travel?

If it's the same Amex travel as for the platinum charge card, then in my experience pricing is identical. The downside is there are extra cancellation/change fees involved.

Not so in my experience. I'm looking at SIN-DRW in Jan on QF and Amex travel is ~AUD300 more expensive.

On the other hand SIN-BNE in Jan on SQ, Amex is ~AUD150 cheaper.

YMMV.

Good news everyone! I applied for this card in January this year and used my free return flight in June/July.
On the 1st of November, I made a "purchase" from Qantas Australia ;) which settled in a few days:

And - it came very quickly! Anyone who hasn't used the digital lounge pass before, you can access them by logging in here: Complimentary invitations

They came through with a year and a month expiry. From there you can transfer them to others if necessary:

SO if anyone (like me) applied for the points and was planning on cancelling before the annual fee comes up again - would suggest getting these digital invites first!
