Qantas A380 - Upper deck economy

I sat in 34A coming back from LA a few weeks ago. Nice cabin, shame about the cascading stomach from the gentleman sitting next to me :(

From what I could tell most pax went around the back of the galley to get to the lavs, so there was little disruption to those in row 35. Lucky fellow who had row 36 all to himself got a decent night's sleep.

I will always try to get a seat in that section from now on, much more comfortable and private than downstairs.

Hi all, am booked in 33J from MEL-LAX on Fri (24th May). Currently 33K is free too (not for long I'm guessing). Which is the better seat?

I've got a standard small rollerbag would that fit overhead on upper deck?

I saw a post on an earlier thread that recommends you get on smartly, as the bins are limited in number. But if your pull-along is not over size I am sure you will be able to stow it.

Beware the overhead bins above the A/B and J/K seats are not as large as the centre ones above D/E/F/G.

I am still contemplating whether to check-in the bag or take it onboard, not sure I can be bothered taking out my LAG's all the time!

My golden rule is to have a carry on with a change of clothes and any other necessities in case the checked bags go walk about.

The upstairs overhead bins are more limited than downstairs from what I have heard. This page from an earlier thread has some pictures of the seats: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ram/new-qf-a380-reconfiguration-40545-41.html

And this page shows the other side of economy and the small bins: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ram/new-qf-a380-reconfiguration-40545-28.html

Overhead Bins: no, my rollaboard Antler does not fit in the bins above A/B, J/K but does in the central bins (55 x 35 x 23 (cm), 36L capacity)

I've done A380 upper deck Y nine times this year - my preferred seats are 32 A/K or 33A/K - all have additional storage lockers under the window - big enough for my backpack. The overhead bins are smaller than downstairs bit a perfect size for my domestic sized (Antler) rolla-board.

I've also done seven old config A380 Y flights (downstairs Y only) this year and I much prefer the upstairs Y cabin - much less traffic, much more of an exclusive feel to it.

Row 32 in the upper deck is now described as having extra knee space but may have limited leg room due to the position of the bulkhead.

Is it still better than being in the lower deck in a normal economy seat? I am travelling with a friend and am currently assigned to 32 A&B.

Absolutely. Stick with 32AB - much better than any downstairs Y seat IMO.

I have 36F upper deck has anyone got thoughts on this seat. I am also looking for to this as it is first flight on A380. Like all am looking forward to the small quite section upstairs.

It is quite close to the galley and lavatory so be prepared for some disturbance.

Not to mention, there's no access on the other side of that row thanks to a wall, so anyone sitting next to you needing the lav will likely make you move.

Personally I'd avoid centre block row 36. I'm assuming you're NB/PS, AFAIK 36F is the only seat in the upper deck that isn't blocked for status. Your choices are limited in terms of good seats. Check if 71D or 80A/K are available (they shouldn't have a block for status IIRC).

There's a wall next to 36D to block the view to the lavatory...

Yes I was concerned with the person sitting in 36D that could be a problem but think I will chance it as it is only the way over and i like the idea of upper deck Thanks all

I booked my daughter (no status) in 36F to and from LHR earlier this year. As other people have noted the partition next to 36D means both 36D & 36E need to go past you to get out. Despite that I would personally prefer to be upstairs in Y, you just have to hope your neighbours have strong bladders :)
