Qantas A380 Seat 71D vs Premium Economy

Given the very positive feedback about seat 71D and its status as possibly the best economy seat, I have this question: Is it better than a Premium Economy middle seat?

I have 71D booked but was considering requesting an upgrade on points. I'm wondering if I should just stick with 71D, in case I end up wedged in between other passengers in Y+ and paying 60,000 points for the privilege. Obviously the overall experience in Y+ is a bit better, but in terms of general comfort and legroom is the 71D seat a better option?

Whilst whY+ is undoubtedly better in terms of seat width, recline, and service, I'd take 71D and keep the points for a better opportunity. (Having said all of that I have never had a middle seat in whY+)

I'm in a similar position this coming Monday, except I don't have as good a seat as 71D. I'm keeping 50C and not using points to upgrade! :)

Which is a better seat - 80A/K or 50C. My concern is space and leg room not the window.

50C/51H for limited legroom, no-one reclining into you and quick exit.

80A/K for great legroom, no-one reclining into you and 10 minute wait to exit.

I have both 50C and 80A preallocated for various flights currently.

I have a 3 hour layover in SIN, so I will stay with 80A. Many thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

50C and 51H are bulkhead seats. Confused me when I was booking for the trip I'm currently doing. I had 51H over and have 50C going back.

I found leg room to be OK but nowhere near as good as 71D, 80A or 80K.

Perversely I'd take the quick exit over 22 hours of improved comfort. :shock: I probably need help!!!!
 
50C for arrival into SIN from LHR before continuing to MEL on same plane, get off, hope for shower in lounge ...

80A for arrival into LAX with 5 hours before my onward flight.

I think this is undoubtedly the best way to maximise comfort for long haul......but I just can't get my head past getting off the plane quickly. I'm totally illogical. (Some may say bonkers!!)

I don't think that's unusual; I am used to being at or near the front of WHY at the very least.

It's hard to force your self to stay seated in 80A/K while waiting for the nearly 380 pax "in front" of you to move off.
 
If you don't have an aisle seat in Y+, when all the seats are reclined they are seriously, seriously hard to extricate yourself from.
I knew my 'aisle hogging' partner very well, but a lot better by the end of the trip, next time will do more pilates and yoga in preparation.

You will also find 50 quieter than 80. Forward of engines.

No bassinets in row 80 - you takes your chances I guess.

(There's bassinets in front of 50A/B/C, 51H/J/K, 52D/E, 52F/G, 81D/E & 81F/G.)

I have just flown LHR-MEL in 50C and the one comment I would make is that there is a lot of FA "traffic". this can prove a little annoying as the curtain between the cabin and the galley swishes across the person in 50C.

The 380 is quiet but the chatter from the galley can be quite loud.

I'd still take 50C over 80A/K though. (I like to get off the plane quickly.)

Yep, often, even while J/W PAX are disembarking using the upper Aerobridge.

When in row 80, it's not so noticeable as one is generally resigned to a 10 minutes wait in any case.

Yep that was the case in MEL.

It has dawned on me that this was my first trip in whY on a 380, my previous three sectors booked in whY last year all resulted in op ups, so I hadn't noticed this before. :)

The FA was quite embarrassed by the situation and said that QF were the only airline to do this.

Quite right too. I don't want to have to mingle with Y passengers once inside the terminal, god knows what I might catch from them. :D

Keep them quarantined on the plane until I'm safely through immigration thank you. ;)

Any preferred seats in Y+ (we have the front row blocked out, so all look much the same).
