Qantas A380 refurbishment news and updates.

Except QF was already using T1 for the flights to SIN and seasonal AKL flights.

Not anymore. The SIN and AKL flights have been running from T3 since QF9 moved to PER. That was the entire point of the move.

VH-OQB to AUH this morning as QF6011 for maintenance.

VH-OQJ also ferried to PUS Busan, Korea for repaint on 8 May as QF6021 (will be the 9th repaint of 12)

One would therefore assume any issues on the remainder of the 380 fleet may cause significant delays., Although it appears 747 VH-OEB is now staying for all of May.

Just FYI the new A380 seat plan will have 6 toilets on the upper deck!

Also as far as I know, that extra flight operating to LHR will be the first to be refitted.
I've been told it's VH-OQK and around 45 days out, With most of the refits to be done within 30 days.

Business lounge area isn't going to be exciting at all, more media hype than anything. Leg room in W seems to be more than the B787 by looking at the seat map, probably wrong though.

Versus 5 currently.
So at a guess they'll make it 2 down the back dedicated to the 60 PE seats,
Then the 4 upfront and middle for the 70 J seats.

The previous renders just made the lounge area look a little better, definitely nothing revolutionary

So 1 more toilet than there is now on the upper deck.

I couldn't see how they could make that lounge area any better with out losing any seats

Something someone has passed on to me, don't know how old or inaccurate it may be.

Lower deck as per announcements won't change, besides new seat covers for Y, and updated F seat covers and IFE.

Very interesting! I was hoping that more PE seats would have extra legroom, but I see that now that door U3R is gone it seems there is no need for an "escape corridor" between U3R and U3L as in the current configuration.

So basically the upper deck was reserved for WP and above to a degree and now that they have taken that away and also charge WP for the prime seats such as 80A/K what are they going to do to offer premium seating to its loyal frequent Platinum Flyers when in Y?

This isn't anything new, we have known this for probably around 2 years?
Even when the A380's came out originally there wasn't any Y on the upper deck.

WP can get row 66 (centre block) for no charge and 48A which can be reasonable seats if under 190cm.

As a WP Y pax, I also am slightly disappointed there’s no real priority seating or slightly better seats. Not very aspirational either as no one will file past better seats and think they should strive for loyalty/a better seat. Bean counters win again..

Slightly different report on airliners.net about the first aircraft to theinsider's info above:

First refurb is VH-OQE
Departs this coming Sunday 26/5 as QF5 SYD-SIN-LHR, then positioning to DRS Dresden.

I'd expect OQJ should return from repaint in PUS Busan any day, so the timing would fit, although is earlier than AusBTs article that refurb would commence in July.

Could be correct, just the information I had was dated from around March. So old info.

Great news that the refurbs are getting underway earlier than expected. Should mean that OQE will be flying earlier than October as previously reported.
