I guess that could make you a possible supporter of Little J and GWB.

Puhlease!! Never have been. Never will be. Although am entirely open to that side of politics, certainly not with Little J & GWB in charge. I just don't understand the logic here. Personally I form my own opinions and a not reliant on leaders of any persuasion (or for that matter ACA/TT/730 Report/The Age/The Herald Sun or other such tabloidic shows/papers) to tell me how to think.

Good to know - but it's OK to let the ABC, SBS and Fairfax press tell you what to think, ya know? ;)

In any event, hitting air travellers up for what amounts to another unjustifiable financial impost won't help anyone - except GovCo shiny bums charged with administering it.

Pound for pound air travel is about the most efficient means of transport when you look at energy expended : distance travelled. Good luck comparing your Vespa to 787. How much fuel would a few hundred Vespas consume getting from Sydney to Los Angeles?

A pox, er, I mean a tax on Vespas!

Witness the hysterical vilification that any declared "climate change sceptic" is subjected to.

Nice to hear from you shillard. Hope you're having a nice day.

Too much at stake to let climate-change sceptics bluff the world - Opinion
Ruckus reported in the press today that the ABC is being 'forced' to air a program doubting climate change.

Interference claim on ABC program - National - theage.com.au

Ah, that would be our impartial national broadcaster at work.

You know, the one that screens and equal amount of....

- Pro & Anti Bush/ Howard material.
- Pro & Anti Israeli material.
- Pro & Anti global warming material.
- etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum, ad absurdum.

How they haven't pulled the plug on "counterpoint" is beyond me.....

Ah yes! The great Global warming swindle; I watched this on the internet several months ago and I think it is very good. I'm not sure about the connection with Thatcher and a few bits like that but overall it seems credible & makes sense. Hillarious to see ABC go apoplectic at being pressured to show some balance for once. Imagine letting the Proles decide the facts for themselves!

Actually this is an odd topic to discuss on a frequent flyer website where we often go out of our way to fly the longer route in order to maximise ff points and credits.

Does this mean a true 'man made global warming' hypothesis believer who is also a frequent flyer & maximises ff points is a hypocrite? Frankly, yes. But then the green religionists mostly are - although not many are as much as the Goracle himself.

That's an interesting concept. I've always tried to find the shortest route to minimise the cost to my employer, and minimise the time I have to be in the aircraft. (I've got better things to do). I find QFF points useless - can't seem to find an overseas destination where I can use them. I have over a million and am paying to go to Europe and South Africa for holidays with money because of no FF seats. But that's another subject.

I forgot my global warming precious moment .... advert on Melbourne radio for tickets to earth concert in Sydney to combat global warming. Fly, drive get there however you can! Breathtaking in it's hypocrisy, and they wonder why people become cynical...

Oh I'm sure the people going to the concert from Melbourne would strap on their hemp sandals and walk, or pedal a bike. Besides there wouldn't be that many people at such a concert as a large crowd wouldn't be able to hear or see with no lighting, amplification and all.;)

I used the Qantas calculator today to see what the longest domestic flight I could quickly come up with would cost me on their 'Carbon Neutral Calculator'.

I checked BNE-PER.

The Carbon offset charge was less than $5 each way.

These types of charges imposed by Government show how stupid and inefficient they are, and it never ceases to amaze me how much air travellers are penalised by stupid Governments.

PS - sorry for the 4 month bump, but thought it relevant due to the Qantas 'carbon neutral' initiative.

Not stupid.

Corrupt, deceitful and incompetent, maybe.

Indeed. Probably the same reason I'm paying $200++ to leave the UK in the near future due to their Government deciding I'm worthy to be taxed that much.

Of course it's being used to resolve Climate Change - An environmental condition that is yet to be proven as legitimate. Can't wait till the Australian Government jumps on the bandwagon!

My problem with all this is that after doing all the research I could over the past year, I'm yet to find any substantiated evidence that climate change is anything more than natural fluctuations. Yet I find plenty of evidence that it is nothing more than natural, if it even exists. It's not appropriate to go into details here, but the media has certainly bombarded us with one side of the story, and many climate scientists are fed up with this. I therefore stongly object to the concept of a climate fee for something that is no more than unsubstantiated hypothesis. Please feel free to contradict me on this, but only if you've done considerable research as I have. (eg don't go quoting Gore, or the hocky stick curve, or reduced arctic ice when antarctic ice is at record highs - such things lost credibility long ago).

Just to confuse the issue more if you walk or worse run you will use up more energy and hence exhale more CO2.A "scientist"has suggested our exercise levels be reduced!
Just this week here in the good ole USA the preliminary results of a study of tree and plant growth in NY state has been released. It seems that trees and plants in Central Park grow better than in less polluted areas. No idea what all this means but certainly adds to the confusion.

It depends on the pollution. Trees and plants have been found to accelerate growth up to 30% by increasing the CO2 in the atmosphere. This is actually used in some enclosed commercial areas. If CO2 in the atmosphere increases, plant growth regulates it.

CO2 is a very minor greenhouse gas. Water vapour contributes about 95% of the greenhouse effect, with CO2 about 3.6%. Considering how much the humidity varies, it makes CO2 look insignificant.

I don't want to pay a tax on an hypothesis.
