Preferred Seats Purchase
Qantas customers can now pre-purchase Preferred Seats when booking for travel on codeshare services with American Airlines. This product was previously unavailable to Qantas customers due to system limitations. Preferred Seats are standard legroom seats conveniently located near the front of the main cabin, and include select window and aisle seats. They are available for purchase when customers book their flight, up until the airport check-in cutoff time.
Customers can purchase a Preferred Seat via AA Call Centres in Australia on 07 3329 6060.
Pricing for Preferred Seats starts at $4 USD per flight, and varies by flight (depending on the length of the flight, aircraft type and location of the seat with the cabin).
Preferred Seats are available at no cost to:
Executive Platinum, Platinum, and Gold members of the American AAdvantage® program and oneworld® elite customers (i.e. Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby), as well as their companions travelling in the same reservation;
Passenger booked in “Y” and “B” fare classes on the AA flight and AAirpass® customers;
U.S. military personnel travelling on duty and their family members travelling in the same reservation.
Main Cabin Extra
American Airlines have recently introduced a new seating option, Main Cabin Extra. These seats provide customers with more legroom and are located in the forward section of the Economy cabin.
These seats will be initially available on flights operated by 757, 767-300ER and 777-300ER aircraft, for services departing on or after 14 November 2012. Main Cabin Extra will also be introduced progressively across the MD-80 and 737-800 fleet.
Main Cabin Extra seats will be identifiable on aircraft seat maps by a “P” or “L” attribute. This may result in Main Cabin Extra seats appearing the same as Preferred seats on the seat map, Main Cabin Extra seats will always be the first few rows of the Economy cabin.
Customers that do not hold a pre-assigned seat will be issued one at the airport at check-in at no additional charge.

Qantas customers continue to enjoy a range of benefits of our partnership with American Airlines, including improved coordination of flight schedules and a greater access to a wider variety of fares for travel between Australia/New Zealand and the United States.
