Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I am more scared of being in the wrong place at the wrong time that I hardly go out for anthing anymore and when I do I avoid double check-ins like Westfield then Woolies. I go to stand alone Woolies at slow times when less people are around. There are 1000s of people in 14 day quarantine who can't even go grocery shopping because they were in the wrong place when a Covid case was there. Is FOCT a thing? Fear of Contact Tracers? And I heard that if you are asymptomatic but positive (not sick) they STILL force you into a hospital or something. What about your home responsibilities? In the last month I have left my house maybe 3 or 4 times. And yeah, I never thought in a million years Australia could ever be like that.
its why stacks of people uninstalled the gov app in the uk once they were doublejabbed. the pingdemic was not tolerate by the masses thankfully

This! In SA you could end up in a med hotel simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, even just a couple of minutes from your home. Or for apartments, in your home. I only go to shops I really need to be in. I don't randomly go into stores anymore just for a look. And fully vaccinated but that's irrelevant. And we aren't even in lockdown here in SA. Masks everywhere. No community cases for over a week. And even those were already in quarantine.

Imagine a smartphone filmed arrest of a grandmother in handcuffs hosting her son and 4 year old grandkids on Christmas morning by 4 big burly Victorian Police - ala the pregnant mum last year arrested for incitement prior to her ultrasound appointment.

Imagine that circulating around the globe on social media.
I learned that day that pregnant women have diplomatic immunity...I honestly didn't know this before.

I guess the argument could be made that you protest in between the lockdowns, when you're allowed to be out and about, in large groups, and without a mask. The lockdown isn't going to be lifted because a 100 people protest. But if enough people protest between lockdowns the government might take that into account.
With respect, that is a terrible “argument”.

Out of interest, is there anything this government does that you wouldn’t defend with a “to be fair” type argument?

To be fair (and I say this as someone who deleted the U.K. app back last October as I couldn’t see what it was adding to my life) I get the feeling U.K. restauranteurs and shopkeepers are much more relaxed about check in than in aus. You aren’t really ever asked to check in in the U.K. and I’ve never been asked to “prove” I’ve done it whereas friends in aus tell me they’re asked to show their green ticks all the time

Not in Brisbane mate… Green tick here would probably be mistaken as a coughtail 🤪

Good piece which discusses the importance of setting a date among other things.

As with so many other things city seems allergic to setting targets (presumably because he, and his band of useless chancers in the ministry) will do SFA to achieve them.

Over the last few days I've spoken to family and friends in Melbourne and Sydney. Every single person I've spoken to is exhausted and over this. They feel like the government is just trolling them now. They are scared because there seems to be no end in sight.

When it comes to borders opening up, my view, which most people in Aus I have spoken to share is there is no end in sight. If - and it is a big if - the 80% target is reached - this doesn't mean open borders. It doesn't even mean fully vaxxed Aussies can enter without quarantine. The best thing it seems is that Aussies fully vaxxed may be able to quarantine at home - although still for 14 days.

The government has gone silent on the pilot for home quarantine....not surprising.

SA is the first state to trial this, and it is proposed for the return of the para-olympians who haven't started arriving in Tokyo yet and competition is due to start I think, 24 August so there's not much to say yet. Doesn't mean that stuff isn't happening behind the scenes.

I guess this shows attitudes in different circles with different priorities. Much like nickykim's view, everyone I speak to understands the need to do this. On the day increasing numbers were announced everyone I know preempted a lockdown, and were thankful it was brought in early, and from 8pm.

We may be 'over' lockdowns, but not one person I know has mentioned trolling. The key question is 'what's the motive for the government to troll'? They have mucked things up, but we are where we are. They're not just doing it for the sake of it.

Home Q will be fine. If people are coming back to see family, that's where family will be!

There was also a forced trial in Alice Springs - overflowing NT domestic quarantine - 19 people or locations.

True. I guess up until now they haven't really been during Delta.

The paralympians will be during Delta, even though no Delta is SA. Delta is a gamchanger.
I think our last outbreak was Delta as it came from the NSW Bondi outbreak. It spread at two restaurants on a Saturday night and Sunday lunch but we were shut down pretty much immediately, and some exposed people put into a med hotel for the duration. Some allowed to isolate at home. That was three weeks ago now.
