Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Well, mine was booked through AMEX online travel. I just spoke to them. I will be getting full refund PLUS a return of the travel voucher credit with a 12 month expiry date. HOWEVER, it will take up to 12 weeks! I'm happy to be getting a full refund and the travel credit back. I wish the travel credit would come through sooner as we could have used it as well as this year's for a domestic trip in Sept. But I'm happy with the full refund without any deadline.

Those who booked directly with Qantas may have better luck with a shorter wait period.

Now I have to deal with the booking I have with American Airlines - I was able to cancel online for a full credit but it has a 12 month expiry and I'd rather have the US$ back in cash. Not sure if I will succeed given I cancelled and not AA, but I'm going to try!

@JB expat I just looked at Qantas site :)
Husband is going to ring in the next couple of days to follow up if they don't contact. Though I think they maybe busy with doing a three month (appears) cancellation period .
So local travel only :( might go to Victoria or Tasmania (if they are open )

I was prepared in that I printed in PDF format / time date stamped all the cancellation information. I have such little trust in airlines. In any event, I think you are correct - they are dealing with thousands and thousands of cancellations and hundreds of travel agencies.

PS - looking at my travel bookings section of my QF profile and seeing nothing makes me so sad! despite the fact that I didn't want to travel overseas in October even if they were going to fly.

MY GUESSES:

Ignoring any bubble partners (and that will be be very few as we essentially will only be in bubbles with Covid free countries) IMO holiday travel is a long way off.

User pays limited business travel will resume late this year, but the extra cost and time involved will deter most. Ditto for compassionate travel which will have some freeing up.

Special arrangements for International Students will be made as we needs the $Billions. Quarantine will be part of this.

QF is offering flights to USA 2x/week via Auckland and then on to Air Tahiti or something. Out of curiosity I took a look. A bit presumptuous re: NZ's willingness.

Agree - better look into booking accommodations in Tassie for January holiday before they book up. LOL

"Today we’ve updated our published international flying schedule and extended our cancellations for international flights in the booking systems through to late October."
Thanks for the heads up.

My BNExMEL-SIN is Sept is now BNE-MEL.

I really hope I don’t have to argue about the meaningless sector they left in there, especially as it was via Amex.

What odds would you give for Qantas cancelling a flight departing MEL for LAX on 1 October? The reason for my asking is here:

Qantas international flight in departing 1 Oct

I don't want to go but I also have a strong preference for a cash refund over a credit and my understanding is that if Qantas cancels the flight before I do (like a game of chicken - but for cash), I have a right to a refund. Please correct me if this is not true.
So I have/had a reservation on Finnair CBR-MEL-SIN-HEL-CDG-VIE-HEL-SIN-MEL-CBR departing 5 October with the CBR-MEL-SIN and return legs on Qantas metal and the flights were just cancelled today. So I guess it's pretty likely that yours will get cancelled too. Because they have cancelled I am now entitled to a full refund (in 14 weeks!) but if I cancelled before this my cancellation fee was $1100 (business sale ticket). I'd play the waiting game and let them cancel if you can. Much more likely to get a better refund that way - eventually.

So I am off home on Monday arriving late at night.Am looking forward to some warm weather. But gues what happens on Tuesday. The Sunny coast is having winter that day.The same minimum as Launceston and the maximum only 1 degree warmer.

Which just goes to show you how good the BOM is on forecasting. At around 0800 this morning the BOM was forecasting 8-17 in Launceston on Tuesday and 8-18 for the Sunshine Coast.
Right now the Sunny Coast is now 8-19.A veritable moving feast of guesses.

Gloomy prediction about the resumption of international flights.
I would suggest there will be one almighty uproar if family Christmas reunions are prevented from happening because of the large expat communities in Oz.
