Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

SQ221 landed at 5:20am after holding for about 20 minutes and QF12 landed at 6:03am (after holding for 30 minutes).

Obviously SQ221 was before the 6am curfew but within the 5am-6am shoulder period.

That provision is only for scheduled arrivals prior to 0600. You can't just rock up early.

At least I'm not the only one caught by surprise- I thought for a moment I must have been delirious since the original announcement was made...

As for the enforcement- will come down to the usual risk, if you end up getting caught due to a Covid infection, then you'll cop a fine. If nothing happens, then nothing happens.
My main personal concern with the approach is that it once again discriminates against us essential workers who cannot work from home, who may work in a healthcare, retail or congested indoor environment. We cannot work from home...it turns a viable trip in to something completely impossible.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's some sort of error as @dairyfloss has suggested, but I guess time will tell. Hopefully Victoria doesn't pick this up and run with it...

I hope you're right. We'll just have to wait and see- I'm more than happy to support the badly affected hospitality industry with ample pub visits within my first week back in Sydney :p

Oups, that came a bit out of nowhere- I had no idea that we have to do all this testing nonsense once we get home to Sydney. At least it seems that it can be ANY test and doesn't have to be those expensive special ones.

Also- here goes my hope for a few cold ones in my favourite pub. Looks like this has to wait an entire week 😢

If you are fully vaxxed you can go straight out into the community. The test at 24-hours and 7 days does not require you to isolate while waiting for results :)

edited: ohhhh... I see - under that it says you can't go to a high-risk setting such as aged care or to a hospitality venue for 7 days! (how many people will read down that far??)

You are not required to isolate with these tests.

It certainly couldn't last for much longer than the initial intake of returning Australians and residents, as business and leisure tourism really requires the ability to enter those settings. Those visitors probably also wouldn't put up with anything much more onerous than a rapid test on arrival, either, and may defer or travel elsewhere. It's not the 'NSW is open for business' that Dom touts, that's for sure

Editing to highlight that this was the concerning bit from the doc:
Until you receive a negative result from your day 7 test you must not go to any:
• high-risk settings, such as childcare, aged care, disability care, healthcare, schools, education and correctional facilities; or
• large gatherings (e.g. concerts, football matches); or
• hospitality venues, except to pick up take-away food or beverages.

Also a sting for families who are returning from holidays in late January, that booked in the mad rush over the last few weeks for the summer holidays. They may now not be able to send kids back to school until a week after they return... ouch

Imagine being a tourist from Singapore coming to Sydney in 3 weeks, then being told that you can't visit hospitality venues for your entire stay here.
I was going to say it's not for tourists, yet, but they are allowing certain business travellers to AU under that arrangement as well, and they would certainly be put out by that

Was announced today that tourists from Singapore are free to come to Australia from November 21st. 2 way travel bubble between Australia and Singapore
Post automatically merged:

Are these tests in NSW free or out of your own pocket and are there testing facilities at SYD for arrivals?

It is somewhat ridiculous when vaccinated visitors are now allowed into Western Sydney hospitals. Surely can't be lower risk than a vaccinated and tested overseas one going to a restaurant (or hospital for that matter)

Edit: I am hopeful that the reference at the bottom saying v1 means it's not the final word

I've edited my post - under the 'not required to isolate' is a para stating you cannot visit high-risk setting until you get a negative result from your 7-day test. But like who would have read that far?
It means I can't go to a pub or restaurant for maybe 10 or so days from arrival this coming Friday. Might not matter to some, but it does matter immensely to me. Pretty much all our friends like to mingle in hospitality venues- plus we stay at a hotel at first so can't even invite anyone home. But as others have said, let's see if these rules a.) last and b.) whether anyone really cares about it in practice.

Yes, aware of the update - but what I got from Singapore Airlines [corporate] was more restrictive, and in-line with the AU govt messaging for the time being. This is what I got:

Australia VTL
• Fully vaccinated travelers from Australia are able to enter Singapore without quarantine, for all purposes of travel.
• Taken together with Australia’s border measures, the VTL will facilitate two way quarantine free travel between the two countrie s for fully vaccinated Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents and their immediate families from 8 November 2021.
• Student and business pass holders from Singapore are able to enter Australia, after Australia finalized the arrangement for their entry.
• Other travelers from Singapore would not be able to travel to Australia until a later stage.

EDIT: seems SQ corporate are just behind the times!... what you mention would indeed supersede this, at least after it's been running for a couple weeks as published. More here: Australia to lift quarantine upon entry for Covid vaccinated Singaporeans

You can rest assured that they're culling some trees right now to ensure everyone gets a coloured printed leaflet into their hands as soon as they get off the airplane. So with that, it'll be on you to properly read "the rules".

My understanding was that it was a once off and was “allowed” due to being predominantly freight on board
We had many SIN-SYD flights on BA 15 and virtually always it landed just after 5am.Was a race with one of the QF A380s who would be first in.

Yes, I phoned the AIR (1800 653 809) this afternoon and they created a link between my AIR entry and my UK ppt. I already have an international certificate linked to my AU ppt, of course. There is no option for a digital copy of this second international certificate to be sent out and I was told the paper copy would take 2-3 weeks to arrive by post.
An update for info of dual citizens who decide to follow official guidance and obtain a second ICVC linked to their foreign passport. My certificate arrived in today’s post so less than a week since I rang AIR to request it – quicker than the forecast 2-3 wks.

As per other posts, for the time being the AIR can provide only a paper version of an ICVC linked to a foreign passport unless that document contains an AU visa – in which case you can obtain a digital ICVC (PDF) through MyGov/Medicare.
