It is already showing up in EF. If you search SYD-LHR for next March (when I am hoping to travel) the first three options you get are QF1 (via SIN) with seats available, QF647/QF9 (via PER) with all fare classes 0 for both flights, and QF446/QF9 (via MEL) with seats available for both flights.
Well that’s me changing my plans yet again. I was booked on QF9 March 3 which has apparently been changed to go via Darwin. How do I change that now, add a Perth-Darwin return leg before and after my return from London…..? Any suggestions welcome 🤷‍♂️

Re QF bypassing Perth:
Reminds me of the old days in early 70’s when you could hang over the railings of the jackaroo bar at Tullamarine (fa_ in hand - father) and wave off relatives flying overseas w colored hanky!!!

Yes tricky, might need to wait until more route changes are confirmed. EF does not show QF9 as going via DRW, or any ability to connect at DRW. Presumably QF will enable the change to be made once the DRW stop has been programmed in.
Edit: P.S. Booked on QF1 the day before :)

May not be DRW, or a tech stop only. Makes sense it’s not scheduled yet.

Personally I don’t agree with having to quarantine for any length of time if I’m fully vaccinated, even if it is at home. What I’m curious about is how home quarantine would work if I were to return to a home that others are living in. Are they all expected to quarantine, just the return traveller, or perhaps I’d have to pay for hotel quarantine as I can’t control what others in the household do?
Hopefullly they OK households if you can isolate in own bedroom with own bathroom and outdoor area (i have all three). Important for me as I will be travelling somewhere in early 2022 by myself and have wife and kids.

Realistically given Sydney's latest roadmap, I think it's safe to say unless you want to pay thousands, 2022 would be a safer bet for expats on flying back to Australia.

Depends how many thousands.

You can get back before Christmas for less than A$3500K. Not terrible considering it's the week before Christmas and the one way tax - the prices were probably similar in 2019. Another A$1000 will get you a return flight to LHR.

So after Gladys promises home quarantine once 80% is hit, which is effectively early Nov (and this is assuming 2 weeks after we hit 80%), she walks it back - and we will still have hotel quarantine.

I'm not surprised, and as usual, this government's policies will continue to keep tens of thousands of stranded and homeless Aussies out for who knows how long.

And if we are waiting for the national average to hit 80% - chances are that won't happen in 2021 thanks to WA and QLD.

? First dose national average is already at 76.1%, with second dose projected to hit 80% in the first week of Nov.

We don’t have to wait for all states individually to hit 80%.

That's a good question ... I've seen two models, one where if you have access to a separate bathroom and stay in that area and not mingle with the household. The other model is that the traveler needs to stay somewhere with no others (except those travelling with them). This does not necessarily mean Hotel Quarantine in the sense that we know it. It might be your own hotel booking and arrangements, or airbnb or the like.

As an example of what is happening elsewhere - Singapore has a 7 day home quarantine requirement for those returning from Australia, which we will be doing next month. At one point it was looking as if for various reasons, I would be returning 2-3 weeks earlier than my partner (not happening thankfully). Singapore only allows people to do home quarantine with others who were travelling with you on same itinerary, and no one else in the household. We had already decided that if I came back first, when my partner returned he would quarantine at home and I would find somewhere to stay for the week (rather than the other way around). Much easier for the "quarantinee" to be stuck in home with full facilities, and the "free" person to be in a hotel, as they are not stuck in the hotel room 24/7, and therefore can use the hotel as a base and come and go, dine out etc.

I don't mind the second policy of finding somewhere to stay if the first policy is a no-go. This way, you can find a hotel you like, at a reasonable price and stay there for 7 days.

In any case, it seems like we should forget uncapped home quarantine arrangements in Aus this year. We still have no clue about anything other than there being some extremely low-scale trials happening here and there. Likely to mean it will be a few more months before it happens at scale.

Wow if that's true. I don't mind waiting an extra month for that! But I guess it's designed that the restrictions will come from the states, it's all wide open from the federal government.

What dates were those visits? I might have been there too with my family. Although it was better in the late 60's at Essendon, when we travelled down from the country to watch the 'rich' people walk across the tarmac to their flights - ah I can smell the nostalgia :)

I dare say it's the commonwealth policy, not NSW "walking it back". Unfortunately Gladys doesn't get to pick when it starts.

It sounds like federal government will be announcing details imminently.
