Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I am getting the covid jab soon, but just noted that even with the jab, saw that NZ now needing a PCR test, at $170 a pop.
Not worth it to do a flight, even a short one, to retain status, by flying over the "ditch" to NZ.
Despite that "transTasman travel bubble"...
SA premier Marshall might have reopened domestic borders to some states, but just wait till something happens, and the state's borders will be closed again.
Don't dare to do any flying, domestic or international for now.

I think by the end of the year PCR tests are highly unlikely to be required for travel within Australia or between Australia and New Zealand as everyone who wants to be vaccinated should be vaccinated in both countries.

I think finally there is some light appearing at the end of the tunnel.

Funniest post of the day, Shouldn't be in the Humour thread? ;)

Flippancy aside, there does seem to be further "discussions" on the agenda. But mostly, these sorts of "discussions" never seem to go anywhere. I suspect 2021 maybe very optimistic, and the trial will only apply to a small number of travellers, but I would dearly love to be proven wrong.

I thought about of humor was needed :)

With 1 million Pfizer a week coming from July 19 I'm hopeful again that travel may resume in time for Christmas at least for some amber countries. Here's hoping that London makes the list with home quarantine on return home.

There is going to be 1 million pfizer doses arriving per week from July 19th? Where is the source for this? For how many weeks will this run?

It is really great news because along with AZ in the country, this would effectively have all adults jabbed by end of 2021.

It’s on the Front Page of The Australian. An announcement by the Feds is expected today. I haven’t read the article as it is paywalled.

Except those anti vaxxers who don't plan to travel or have a passport, dare I say.
Or those "Karens" who will "kick" up something/kick something up that gets their "goat".
I think I read somewhere that the covid vax jab is not compulsory as a day to day part of life, unless you are compelled to get it for work, or for us on here, for international travel.
My doctor keeps asking, so I thought I might as well get it done with.
Hope indeed NZ will take away the PCR/other anti covid test requirement tho.

It is between $120 & $300 ...

Hey if you want a bit of light-hearted relief - just heard on the morning TV news that a man with a cleaning company that specialises in deep cleaning Covid 'hotspots', who has the number plate “CVD-19” on his truck, has had this plate cancelled by Vic Roads because it’s offensive. Go figure !!

Don't dare to do any flying, domestic or international for now.
Now there's a great idea, thanks.....nobody fly anywhere, the airlines will just sit dormant, bleeding $$$ & will just up & go when ppl like yourself are comfortable to fly. hmm.

plenty are flying this year (no cats or dogs onboard), QF & JQ have stated they were (pre this Syd & recent Mel lockdowns) at pre-pandemic records, while VA something similar. Mind you I highly doubt these claims, but what do I know!

Those & there's many of us I assume, are willing to fly atm & will continue to do so, if/when we get caught out by lockdowns, it's a minor hassle to cancel/change plans as if you expect it, makes it lot less of a big deal.

re; the great news in Pfizer brought forward, I assume they'll still have to be batch checked by TGA or whoever, then get them all out to interstate hubs & GP's.....so I'm estimating mid Aug before they get into arms?? Others know timelines for this process?
thanks

They will be doing everything they can to do it as quickly as possible, but we should try to keep the focus on this thread on what things mean for when international travel resumes. There are other threads for discussing the vaccines and the vaccine rollout.

But supply is not the only factor, we also need the ability to get these into arms, and people to actually turn up. Even in countries which have been largely successful with their rollout they have been doing well to get to 70% vaccinated.

Last OT on this:
Saw Chris Chamberlain's snippet mentioned a fee of $170, that is where I picked it up from, its a shock though.
After reading around, I do see that the fee varies, and that Medicare does not subsidize these, so its charged to the flyer at the full amount.

We already have over 70% of the over 70s with a first dose (Most of these would have had AZ). We have over 55% of 50+ with a first dose. Considering 50-59 can now get Pfizer hopefully in the next 3 months or so both of these will be at over 70% fully vaccinated.

In my opinion once that’s achieved they should set a date to open the borders providing enough time for the rest of the vulnerable to get a vaccine if they wish. However, I suspect they may be more cautious than that.

Watching Livestream of Goodwood Festival of Speed 2021, sure looks different to Sydney right now.

If all of these returnees are fully vaccinated, disappointed this is 14 days days, not 7 days as first stated by PM. He stated 7 days home quarantine for fully vaccinated returnees safer than 14 days in hotel quarantine. Has to start somewhere I suppose. Build on this......................
