Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

but we can enter UK now with no quarantine, just have to get out of OZ
Only in very select circumstances, which I've outlined several times now.

Unless you're on a direct flight from Australia or transit via SIN, you'll have to self isolate or quarantine.

The polls I have seen that strongly supported keeping the borders closed have all been online polls not by Landline. That has it's own bias but it shows that those supporting closed borders are somewhat passionate about it.
And of those supporting opening the borders at least 1 is my vote.

Some potential polls straight out the Sir Humphrey playbook
(rate on scale Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree)
1) I am concerned about the dramatic escalation in COVID cases and deaths in countries that are geographically very close to Australia
2) I am concerned that travellers from nearby countries could bring COVID into Australia
3) I am concerned that states will close borders should a traveller return from overseas with COVID
4) I support the continued ban on Australians travelling overseas for holidays.

OR

1) I am encouraged by the dramatic drop in COVID cases and deaths in similar countries such as US, UK.
2) I have confidence that between vaccinations, COVID testing and safe management measures that I will not contract COVID.
3) I support exemptions for Australians who have been separated from their loved ones to travel overseas to visit them.

Lies, damn lies and statistics...... the data will always present the story the polling party wants it to present.

Unfortunately Sir Humphrey and Jim Hacker are no longer with us. I wonder if there is a Covid season of Utopia in the works?

Even Bernard to whom Sir Humphrey demonstrated the use of leading questions in polls is no longer with is.

I guess some people's idea of utopia is being sought for. One person's utopia is likely to be very different to another's.

The polls I have seen that strongly supported keeping the borders closed have all been online polls not by Landline. That has it's own bias but it shows that those supporting closed borders are somewhat passionate about it.

Or that the narrow section of the population who were given access to the poll felt that way. A poll in a online publication will tend skew to the subscriber base. A phone poll skews to those who have landlines (and answer unknown numbers, some thing rare for younger people).

Whether people agree with border closure (and there are 2 elements departure and arrivals, the ability to leave is not a real risk to those who remain, how we manage the returnees is a risk) now; shouldn't negate the ability for the governments create a plan for opening up and specifying the criteria for it to happen.

The main objection is to the lack of transparency as to how long we will be locked down and how we transition out of it. "I dont know" is not a reasonable response, tell us what has to happen for them to open.

That's a shame. Would have been good if they had overbooked those flights and had some people on standby to take seats vacated by those barred from travelling.

Have heard that the QF repatriation flight due to depart today will only leave with 70 of its 150 passengers as 40 have tested positive and the others are close contacts
That is a stunning 26.6% positive rate. Hopefully the positive rate of those flying when they get retested at the National Centre for Resilience is miniscule.

As international travellers, I'm afraid we are 'stuffed' until the day after the Federal Election when suddenly it will be safe to travel overseas again. Our closed circuit 'hermit' economy is working just fine and with local radio reporting this morning that up to 40% of the population is hesitant about taking the vaccine because we have no cases and/or they would rather wait until there is a safer vaccine later. Our success in eliminating the virus internally means we are stuck here indefinitely.

That and about 40% of the population (pre-Covid) don’t have a passport.
