6 people on the tube, no masks and clearly not the same household. No wonder things are the way they are..... Definitely not exempt from our conversation either. They just didn't care.

I spoke up and they tried to hit me. Sigh.

Stay right away from such people. They clearly don't give a squat about anything and you won't change their mind. Stick to your own safe bubble of Covid protection.

I wouldn't say tighter than ever ..... places of worship are still open. Ridiculous.

Rest of Europe now shutting borders to UK as the new strain races through London. Following the Australian premiers playbook!

Why the UK didn’t cut themselves off early in the piece still boggles my mind.

Well, I found plenty of Award flights anyway for travel in December 2021. Booked for two of us to fly to Tel Aviv. Chances of this happening?

That was my sons concern was that UK would close borders before he got there.

I'd say 50/50 at best. Can't help but be pessimistic at the moment.

On the train at the moment as a friend in my support bubble is in a bad way, it's dead empty. Good to see. The train that is, not my friend. I don't want him doing what he did last time as I can't deal with another funeral in such a short time.

I'm sorry to hear that, all the best for your friend, it is truly a sad time.

I was planning to travel and see my partner and friends in Paris - that's all gone now. I went for a walk this afternoon in London and it just appears to be a quieter, more depressing attitude at the moment.

My big worry is how dangerous this new strain is. We know about the 70% increased rate of transmission, but we don't don't know about the severity. It feels like deja-vu again.

I'm likely to cancel any travel plans in H1 2021 now.

While vaccination has begun - we actually don't know how effective the vaccines will be en masse, how long we need to wait to see if they are effective, how long it will take to vaccinate everyone and if they are affective against this new strain.

I would say it's pretty good. The issue *may* still be quarantine on return. But I think as we get to Europe and USA vaccinated by mid year, and Australia vaccinated by mid-to-end 2021, folk returning with a vaccination may be able to home quarantine?

I want to book some award flights for Dec next year.
Pondering through which airlines under the OneWorld banner will still be around

I think the vaccination for the US/Europe would be end of 2021/Q1 2022 - at best.

The Oxford/AZD vaccine would have had to be approved by now for that timeline to occur. Furthermore, there have been delays in the US with delivering vaccines and also the UK is vaccinating at a much slower rate that expected. Just to add to this, there will be delays in the UK in getting their next shipment from Pfizer as it is coming from Belgium, particularly with what has occurred this weekend.

Quite a conundrum whether award or $$.
Definately award, even if value not quite where you want it to be. Can cancel easy, and who cares if you get a 6,000 QFF penalty. Better than spending cash and potentially losing it, or getting a voucher that you may not use for any future reason,. You can book almost a year in advance, gets you taste buds moving for upcoming trip. As stated prior, I'll be doing this July next year for July 2022 Europe.

As to Pushka and Tel Aviv December 2021, prob 50/50, but if so almost definately some form of quarantine on return. By that stage they may allow home detention though.

We are prepared to do that. We will then go to UK to have Christmas with son who missed out on family Xmas this time due to Level 4 in his county. Worth the time.

Definitely preference refundable points as payment method - no real debate really.

Perhaps it was my brevity that caught me out, but I was really meaning the conundrum is when booking this far ahead, which airlines are more likely to still be in business.

I think your best bet is national carriers here - particularly those funded or heavily supported by their governments i.e. EK and QR.

Agreed - literally makes no sense whatsoever.
Though about 2 thirds of the country profess to be Christians and Christmas is about their beliefs. The Tasmanian Premier has done something similiar by allowing extra people in churches from yesterday until Sunday 27th.Then back to smaller allowances than pubs or clubs.

From Sunday 20 December until Sunday 27 December, churches and religious services will be permitted to have up to 75 per cent of their seated capacity attending services. Services held in indoor areas without fixed seating, should base seating arrangements and capacity in line with the one person per 2 square metres. Public Health will review maximum capacity attendance for church and religious services following this period with updated capacity requirements to be identified early in the New Year.

From Monday 21 December indoor theatres and cinemas will be permitted to have up to 75% of their usual seated capacity in line with the current indoor maximum of 250 people.

Not trying to be difficult nor querying your other figures but the percentage of people professing to be Christian in the last Census was actually 52% of the population. Around 70% in total professed to have some religious beliefs - but that figure was not just Christians.
