Possession is 9/10 of the law. In Putin’s case it’s 10/10 re leased aircraft in Russia

Putin has replaced cancelled Airworthiness certificates issues by the country of the Lessor with Russian ones.
These leased aircraft are stuck in Russia and the lessors can’t get them out

Another issue is the potential swapping of parts - or cannibalising which will complicate any airworthiness of the leased aircraft if they are ever returned

And many are actually owned by the Irish.

The problem the Russian Airlines face is that re registering the planes in Russia is against International law. So for S7 for instance if they do they can say goodbye to being part of OW.

Good luck with getting these aircraft out of Russia anytime soon.
All these aircraft are flying domestically so any alliance is a moot point

To what extent will these aircraft be written down by the lessors - total loss? . Nice bargaining chip in Russia’s possession

Except they will never be able to fly out of Russia again.
I believe one has already been seized at IST.

Yes it's very short sighted.

None of the airlines that do this will ever be able to fly internationally again - at least to the free world - they won't be able to lease aircraft and these aircraft will now become worthless outside of Russia.

I guess in fairness, the airlines didn't get much of a say. I'm guessing S7 will be nationalised and possibly rolled into Aeroflot.

Not so sure.
When big money is involved and once this over, who knows.....
But as I posted in the Ukraine thread in the private jet business ownership is being unravelled and shell companies involved in hiding Russian ownership are being identified. i doubt that the Russians will be successful in hiding their ultimate ownership. And certainly not their airworthiness certificates.
