Policy on changing TV channel in QF Business Lounge

They must have a commercial arrangement requiring "that" news channel to be shown, i have complained previously with no response from QF as I dont agree with the way they present editorial as news (from credlin and the other castoffs from the coalition along with bolt, Murray and the other late night crazies).

The qf lounges are probably the only thing giving them any kind of audience figures, QF need to fix this.

Oh those crazies Credlin, Bolt, and other castoffs is the only reason I watch SkyNews. Like Fox News. I cannoy (t) understand why the ABC is so Opposite i.e. cast-in and un-crazy using your language, and using tax payer money to do so and yet does not represent a balanced view. The balance I get is Right there. Bolt must be dangerous ( his words are mightier than a sword) He gets attacked on the streets of Melbourne. Only for saying how it is, the truth. We have a lot of truthophobes out there!?

As long as the sound is OFF! No matter what the show. Actually I find TVs that are turned off have much more interesting viewing than most TV stations.

Sometimes the subtitles are more entertaining. I don't know who or what does some of the subtitles, but gee they can go wrong...

Have you heard the standard of AFL commentary these days?
The sound must certainly be off.
Dwayne Russell and Brian Taylor, if you are reading this, you suck.

So your'e a Labor supporter then? :D

...The balance I get is Right there...

Freudian slip?
Together with Bolt telling the truth? Surely you mean Bolt giving his opinion?
Opinion and truth are sometimes wildly divergent.

Back on topic: another vote for sound off for TVs in a lounge.

I’m a dinky-die swing voter (and centrist) who doesn’t want to see Americanised fake news further messing up the Australian system.

Hate to talk politics but I’m afraid it’s unavoidable when the particular channel is mentioned as it’s little more than a content-mill, not a news outlet

Outsiders Rowan Dean and Ross Cameron can be refreshing because it is a change to the leftist leaning ABC which cannot be saved apparently according to the Outsiders.

The good Doctor's prescription in this case is sound
There are some other apps which can sort out a mobile-based channel change also

My trick is to quietly do this and then see who in the lounge notices (I don't get out much)

Surly it cannot be that easy......iPhones for instance don't have infrared and you would need to connect via bluetooth interface if bluetooth were the way. WiFi surly the TV would need to be connected to the same network.

All jokes about liking or hating footy aside (and I totally agree regarding BT and DR!) the above comments about changing channels unilateraly raises a likely common problem faced in any pulic place with such offerings like a lounge, cafe or even heck a shared facilitility like a nursing home or hospital waiting rooms and the like.

I mean is it "right" to just change a channel because you personally do not like the content displayed, or perhaps feel something else should be (such as footy, or kids shows, or whatever)? Is it right to just change a chanbnel without asking either staff or those around the common TV(who may or may not be watching) if it's OK?

Personally I would bristle if someone just changed it without asking SPECIALLY if I was watching.

Now some situations are different.. eg: Tuning in the Melbourne Cup for 5 minutes, or a big game like you'll find everyone watching the superbowl in the US

however in general it really is a big issue for some - both providing content acceptable to the majority (and in an airport lounge that obviously would be a new channel of some sort) and keeping the majority happy.

I think all would agree that the point of having personal devices and headphones these days are so that one can tune into thet sport of one's choice or any other program on your PED (but please, do it with headphones!) then you don't have to worry about a channel being changed or your particular interest not being catered to.

my 2 cents

Agree, a mate of mine with an older Samsung phone with an IR transceiver does it all the time at our annual summer holiday destination. Last time he used it at the local club to change from boring local community news channel to the Big Bash and got a standing ovation from the patrons!

I'm not normally so overt when I use it :)

I don't profess to understand the technology behind it, but I can assure you it definitely works and is extremely simple to install and use.

My Xiaomi mobile has an app which you can set up pretty much any commercial device (TV's, Airconditioners, anything that has a remote)
Very handy - I often can't find the remote control, but I always know where my mobile is

Yes, these smart TV remote type apps are very common and easy to use.

But in my view just because you CAN do something like this doesn't mean you SHOULD.
