Points Upgrade Confirmation - E-Mail instead of SMS

Hi Guys,

I have noticed that I am no longer receiving SMS notifications for points upgrades for international al flights. As a WP I was typically getting this 24 - 48 hours prior to departure. I have now had 3 this year that have not come through as an SMS but have been successful. This last one actually seems to have gone through as a "Cancelled flight" in Y with an upgrade request and a "new flight in U instead. I've never seen this before. (No points deduction yet either - shhhh)!

I contacted QF as I wasn't able to check in online and they can't explain it. They're also saying that my upgrade confirmation should be an E-Mail rather than an SMS ( no confirmation if this is a change or not). Ironically I am not getting the E-Mails either.

So.... am I delirious or did we used to get SMS confirmation? And has anyone else seen the flight cancelled/new flight scenario or is this also new this year?

First world problems I know :)

Cheers,
Rob

Have also received an SMS for upgrades, when my phone has actually been on, otherwise I didn't 'receive' until switching on again in Aus, lol.

I used to get them all the time (sms). Then last year, in dec, nothing. first flight this year I got an sms... rather cryptic.. "please obtain a new boarding card for your flight qfxx_ departing xx_ to xx_ from qantas.com or at the airport"
quite odd I thought.

no emails ever...

Just had points upgrades come through for three domestic flights and no notification of any type. Only noticed when I saw my points balance had dropped and the deductions were in transactions (transactions were processed yesterday and day before).

With my domestic upgrades on the 19th Dec and 2nd Jan no SMS or email. Its a nice surprise when your handed the boarding pass.

I had SMS notifications in Nov & Dec 2014. I like to know in advance. I normally live a stress-free life - it is not a feeling conducive to my ongoing good health (physical & psychological) to be going to the airport thinking that I've missed out on an UPG :(.

I've got a points request in for later this week. Just went into seat selection and it has "two" flights. I could select a seat in both Y and J.

That is known to happen about 24 hours out when it looks "likely" that the upgrade will be granted, but they're not prepared to confirm it just yet.

I had an upgrade confirmed by email & SMS two weeks ago, but yesterday's I received no notification about. Not only that, but when I checked at about T-20 I noticed the upgrade, with no allocated seat and an error when I tried to choose one. Meanwhile my mobile app was showing seat 2A. Both domestic. Hmmm

Time for RedRoo to clarify what's happening. I know I'd be pleased about getting an upgrade but not about not being advised in advance.

Or has the penny pinching got to the level where they are trying to save the SMS cost?

Here's an interesting case study about order of upgrades and status and the great mystery.

I'm flying tomorrow as SG and have requested upgrade to J from W. Have been SG for about two years. Most of my travel is cheap Y. Travelling together (but on separate bookings) with much more experienced colleague who has recently become PS after heavy star usage but was gold or above for many years and has been part of the program for much longer and certainly paid for a lot more J travel than me. She has also requested upgrade from W to J.

As of this moment no notification online or in any form of movement for me. Points not deducted. She has had a text from her TA telling her the upgrade is successful though.

so, is this a case where it's not just as simple as me gold and her silver and in theory I should have had priority or I wonder if her using a TA makes a difference and their system allows them to see earlier!?

Just as an update for anyone curious. At 24 hours checked in and was given seat in economy.

Around 8 hours before the flight got a text saying "get a new boarding pass" and on checking the points have been deducted. Checked using phone and new boarding pass to J sent to phone.

interesting - Today have received an upgrade (T-28) notification via SMS as it used to be..... has someone flicked the switch back....

Interesting given the call centre told me that "There was never SMS's for Upgrades".....

Got a text message at T-28 today confirming my upgrade on QF93 tomorrow. I'm a PS so was surprised to have it confirmed so early.
