“Hypothetically” if AA issued an award and then forgot to take the points out of the account, what action should one take?

A) Hold out and hope for the best?

B) Call up and ensure the correct amount of points are deducted?

C) Alternative course of action?

.....asking for a friend ;)

The itinerary is definitely marked as “ticketed”.

I had that happen with me with QF. I then used the points elsewhere. QF called me eve before my flight to say if I dont come up with points I would`nt be able to fly.

If your ticket is on AA metal, you can wait until they deduct the points. In the event there are any ticket anomalies AA can create space on one of their own planes to carry you.

If the ticket is on a partner airline, you should probably sort this out now. If you haven't 'paid' for the ticket, it could be cancelled. And getting award space on a partner airline can be tricky.

Did you end up flying? Was this on QF metal or a partner airline?

This happened to me but with LifeMiles. I booked the flights around 8months before I travelled. The points were taken out once I flew. I kept hoping they wouldn’t take the points and I was nervous the flights would be cancelled due to non payment of points. I think I checked those flights every 2 or so weeks for 8 months to ensure the flights weren’t cancelled. It was very stressful

Once redeemed three by two people business class intra-Europe tickets with British Airways.

Flew without any issues and then as I has to use or lose the points I would have used on the flights as there were about to expire, (as they had taken over BMI, and were not willing to keep me due to my Australian address) used the points to redeem a weeks accommodation at London Hotel.

As I gained those points from doing a few quick surveys, and points boni for joining up was very happy as points came 100% free and took very little time to acquire ;)

Weird think too was even though BA stated the would close my FF account as of a certain date, they never did and it is still active.

It was some time ago, but I used points on AA for a CX F ticket MNL-ORD and the points were never deducted. I flew with no problems and there was never any follow-up. Actually I only noticed the discrepancy when I was booking another award the following year.
