Place your bets - will my girlfriend also get an upgrade?

(Currently passing the time at LAS, using their great free WiFi, figured I'd put this question to the brains trust :)).

I'm currently on an LONE4, flying LAS-LAX-AKL-SYD, and my girlfriend (no, fiancée - still getting used to that ;)) is on all the same flights, but her LAS-LAX is a separate paid ticket, and her LAX-AKL-SYD is on an Award Explorer.

On check-in at LAS, I was given a J boarding pass for LAX-AKL, but my girlfriend was told she'd have to pick up her LAX-AKL-SYD boarding passes at LAX.

I'd requested the itineraries to be linked months ago, but I think that only extended to matching seats. Our seats were next to each other (24J/K) when I checked online yesterday, but my boarding pass is now 4F (and lists the class as J).

Guesses on if they give her an upgrade too? Unfortunately seatcounter.com's down, so I can't check availability in J. Post your vote and we'll see who's right in a few hours. :D

If they don't, I'll give her my seat and slum it in Y...she rarely flies. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Wait no, make that fiancée. We got engaged in New York last week. :)

Didn't even need to wait until LAX - she was given a J boarding pass at the gate in LAS! :D

Happy days. Third upgrade from LAX in the past 3 trips!

Well I hope you made that offer to her BEFORE she gained her own upgrade.

Now that she has "upgrded" her status to fiancée, you need to start building up your Husband Point Balance now as you are going to need them later!!!! ;)

Do tell where you popped the big q in NYC?

Personally I proposed under the Eiffel Tower a couple of years back. :)

Ohh yea, congrats on your fiance getting the upgrade also. I've also had some good luck on the AKL-LAX-AKL QF25/26, a 100% success rate actually.

Congrats on the upgrade ... If the question was still unanswered, I would have replied with:

"Yes. Because you'll offer her your seat in J".

Thanks everyone!

Congratulations!

Now, look her booking up on www.checkmytrip.com or qantas.com/yourbooking and check what seat is allocated.

Boarding passes already have seats - we're not sitting together, but the QF desk at the T4 Admiral's Club said check back 10min before boarding. If no luck, we'll ask if anyone's keen to swap on-board (if not, no biggy).

We both love NY so I figured it was the best spot for it. We're both also big foodies so I booked a degustation at Daniel (Daniel Restaurant, New York, USA | The World) and popped the question there. When we left, I had a 10 person limo waiting which took us to a bunch of bars and coughtail lounges/speakeasies I'd made reservations for - Milk&Honey, PDT, The Back Room and a few others. Then we spent the last hour just cruising around Manhattan enjoying the limo's bar. Amazing night. :)

I proposed with a token ring, but we went shopping for the proper ring the next day (US diamond prices coupled with the amazing AUD meant she got something really, really nice :)). We went to get my engagement ring from Georg Jensen in Vegas, but the shop had closed down. Luckily it's not that much more expensive in Sydney.

Cheers,
- Febs.

It did for me when op-upped to PE on an O class fare LAX-MEL in January - I was even able to select a Skybed on-line.

Interesting. As I said, never has happened for me. I checked again today (was op-up'd at check-in for my connecting domestic sector) and my flight details for the international flight still show my old seat.

I postulate it depends upon how soon the op-up is granted; in this particular case I was checking my booking in the morning from the east coast USA before heading West.
