QF009,

After reading your trip reports I thought there may be a comment from you :!:

On the other hand I thought there may be a move afoot already for a group trip to Philly.

More a wine/champers/vodka person here and I'm not usually v beery or into other spirits. In my defence I did have two pints of Yuengling prior to that pic... not a lot compared to most but it was more than sufficient beer in one sitting for moi! ;)

I was getting into the JW Blue in LA but was forced to stop most abruptly. :(

But they would have been US pints as opposed to real pints, so they don't count.

Except that it was still early in the evening, and I'd moved on to other beverages later in the evening.

Who's up for a trip to Philadelphia :?:

Philadelphia the USA Beer Drinking City

What a stroke of luck, I'm off to Philly on Monday. Unfortunately it only briefly while on my way to Atlantic City to do a wine tasting.

Boston is a pretty good beer town. Sam Adams brew some good stuff, and there is also a brewery called Harpoon which makes some interesting and eclectic brews. some are agreat and some are awful.

Philly is also about very good restaurants at prices lower than most big american cities, chinatown has some of the best asian restaurants in LOFTAP.Then there is the mummers parade on New Years day which is a visual delight.
However for a nice beery afternoon I can remember going up to Manayunk and drinking at Dawsons pub and the Manayunk Brewing Company. This is the trendy part of Philly.

Going to BNE for a day to suffer memory loss and a serious hangover the next day was bad enough.

Plus I make very nice steak sandwiches so need to go half way round the world for a cheese steak.

If they aren't smothered in cheese, shiny, fatty, totally unhealthy and disgusting (that's in a yum! kind of way) then they don't count. There are steak sandwiches then there are cheese steaks. ;)

I made the mistake of ordering "Philly cheese steak" in one of those try-hard American diner wannabes in Singapore (in my defence we were drunk and it was the closest resto to the bar that we could find that was still open in a neighbourhood devoid of hawker centres). Should've known better. It was nothing like the real thing at all - more or less resembled a Maccas beef burger.
