HOTEL prices in Perth are set to skyrocket and overtake the Harbour City over the next three years on the back of the mining boom.
Hotel room rates in Perth are set to climb by 14 per cent a year to reach an average $249 by 2014, the latest Deloitte Tourism & Hotel Outlook shows.

What rock were they under? Room rates have been ridiculous on and off for years. Just paid $349 for the Mercure last week. Sometimes you can't get room at all eg Bon Jovi concert!

I was just saying to my WA colleagues that we should be opening hotels.

One of the problems is the lack of investment in new hotel accommodation in the city. Properties are worth more as office blocks than hotels.

On the plus side, weekends can be quite affordable....

Yes you should see the rents at the soon to be opened Brookefield Place / City Square!!

Weekends must bring the average down a bit. Under the current Hilton promotion I've picked up 1 night queen basic room for only $129 I think. (mattress run, last stay left me 1600 base points short )

Considering they are 3/7ths of the week, I would expect so!

Mind you I was there just before CHOGM...

It would be interesting to compare BNE as well given again I have seen some horrid hotel pricing there...

Very similar pricing for the same reasons, I have no issues getting the HI for $100 or so weekend, different story during the week.

Looking to book in PER for OzFest may 24-26 next year.
Frankly, I don't like your chances.

Thankfully the APPEA conference (always that week & weekend) is in Brisbane that year; but HBF run for a reason is on that weekend (29 May) which pulls in a few internationals.

Looking at the Perth Convention Bureau website, there's not much listed for May yet, but will check back on that in a few months when more of the May conference dates are usually finalised and listed. There's also a couple of conferences for whom dates in May are yet to be announced.

Its not just expense, it's availability. Last year I ended up staying at a friend of a friends place (luckily they had a spare couch), because a week out there was not a single room available from the low budget youth hostles to the top of the line 5 star establishments.

I was seriously considering where abouts would have the safest park bench for me to sleep on.

Pretty hard to turn down a room for $175 in Perth!
Not so much when there are two guests who, due to status, get complimentary breakfast as well as free internet

PC is good for 'free' nights - but it does lack guaranteed, even on an award stay, tangible stay bennies when compared to other programs like HHonors and SPG.

Things can happen with PC, like two Plats getting the "Presidential suite" at the Canberra Crown Plaza last weekend on a four night Cash and points stay - such is not gauranteed - they still had to pay for breakfast at the hotel.
