Hi All,

I am planning on flying from PER to SYD on QF566 next Thursday 30th March. I was considering purchasing a Flexi-saver ticket and seeing if I could use some of my upgrade credits to get closer to the front of the plane. :D

I realise that this flight is often packed to the rafters, but can anyone with access to one of those online availability thingies tell me if there are empty seats in J that may be available?

Thanks,
Peter.

It's a tough gig Peter. But I gave EF a run.... (Note this is a seen from the LOTFAP)
Code:
QF 574 0 PER 30/03/06 05:50AM SYD 30/03/06 01:05PM 734 B

From this it seems the 332 flights on the 11:15pm red-eye or 11am Lunchtime would be your best bet for an on departure upgrade.

I see little chance of U availability other than perhaps the red-eye before that.

Thanks Ross.

The earlier flights won't work for me as I am only in PER for a day's work and can't really leave before mid-afternoon.

From my reading of the numbers, it looks like I am more likely to be successful in snagging an upgrade by taking the red-eye home. Is that correct?

Edit - just saw your update. Confirms that I might as well purchase the cheaper fare and save $300 or stay for dinner and fly on the red-eye. Yuk.

If they do release OD UPG you need to be at the Airport around 3 hours before departure to be first in line, I did that last year and it worked well and then went back to Burswood. Almost missed the flight as I struck a lucky run on roulette which well and truely paid for the extra nights stay I made to avoind that red eye!

BTW Very impressed with the ICH at Burswood, they had done a lot with the rooms since I last stayed there, although I was said to see my favorite apartments at Scarborough were no longer offering short stays!

Well, I booked the flights on QF after checking with my SO that it fitted in with her schedule. After arriving home I find it does NOT fit with her schedule - she forgot about a prior appt, and I am asked to put it back a day. Of course when I check availability, the same flights next day will cost me double!

So now I am flying DJ both ways. For a flight that long in Y I'd prefer to be on an A330. :( I've paid the extra $30 each way for a Blue Zone seat but cannot lock in an aisle seat until I check in, so I hope to hell that I'm not sitting in a middle seat.

Do DJ's seats recline?

:D Yep, aside from a few in the exit row!

To make your WHY flight a little more bearable try to get a seat behind the ones that don't recline! :D

For future reference, it's not necessary to buy a Flexi-saver ticket to be in a position to apply for an upgrade, merely a Super Saver fare.

Would the OP like to report back with how they went?
Hi v8Statesman,

If you scroll back up a little you can see what happened - my plans changed so I had to fly the next day. However QF only had full price Y fares available the next day so I cancelled with them and flew DJ instead.

Click here for details of that experience. :D

Does anyone know on the 747-300 on this route if the plane has skybeds?

If you want skybeds on this route, your best bet is to find a scheduled A333.

Additional to Serfty's correct reply, the only aircraft in the Qantas fleet to have Skybeds installed are the 747-400s and A330-300s.

They are marked in the flight schedules, just need to find a 333 in the schedule. In the next week, the following flights are scheduled to be A333's:

Friday 2 Jun QF518 --->Nice score for the red-eye!
Friday 2 Jun QF580
Monday 5 Jun QF 582
