Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

Whenever flying long haul J, I always ask one of the cabin crew for my PJs as soon as I'm in my seat & get changed into them before the plane has even finished boarding! :)

The thing that stops me from changing into PJs before boarding is if there is a tech fault and de-planing is needed. Admittedly it is an unlikely event, but it happened to me in MEL once where a B747 had to be unloaded before we left the gate to fix a glitch (I hadn't changed and I can't recall if anyone had. It was some years ago and they may not have handed out the PJs but I can't remember.)

Qantas found a couple of spare 737's down the back of the lounge after FMG changed their FIFO rosters, hey?

And when the travelling public doesn't stampede onto these cramped beasts, QF will tell us if we don't use it. we'll lose it.

Some business model.

Well Perthites weren't prepared to pay enough to fly QF to SIN on an A330 so what else should they/we expect?

I for one will use this service and hope it leads to more.

That's a risk I'm willing to take. Besides, if you're off boarded, it's not like you are going to be in a hurry to get anywhere. Plus it only takes me a minute to change back into my usual flying clothes (jeans and polo shirt).

Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

i said i would use it if it came back

could well be the difference between gold and platinum for me

but over 5 hours in a 737?

yeah nah

Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

In row 4 or emergency exit i could cope. Its not really any different to flying bne or syd to per in a 737 and people cope with that

Not as long as PER-HKT on a 737;)

Could they? I never have, and never will! :p

It's interesting, and the ex SIN J price is not too bad if the $ recovers a little, but I'd be quicker to book if they gave us a real plane.

Hopefully SQ have a sale to compete.

We did 5 hr 30 min in an A320 on QR in J from FCO to DOH in November. Maybe it's because I am used to small planes (Q400, etc) but I actually found it great and preferred it to the 787 on our following flight which I found too large and impersonal. Only 12 seats in J on the A320 (and only 4 seats occupied=great service) compared with the 787 which has 20J and all were full.

So if QF were to bring a couple of 738s up to the QR standard, they could be on a winner.

I don't mind narrow bodies, I guess. After all, I still find it quite strange that a lot of pax likes to have a big plane such as the 747 - just so that they can go to the tiny cozy upper deck which, in effect, is roughly the size of a small narrow body.

Wide bodies usually have a much better hard product than narrow bodiee

Total mix. Despite my earlier comments I would take a 737 BSI with IFE any day over the older A330s with no IFE / iPad IFE

Obviously in J the product is more differentiated.

I was wondering with QF sending the 737 up to Singapore from Perth, will the business class dining be similar to what they currently offering on international routes (ie small and big plates) or are they going to offer something similar to the trans-tasman narrowbody flights?

Did PER-BNE redeye once in exit row. Never again. Now I watch like a hawk to see if they plane change me and , if they do, straight to upgrade thanks.

How you could even contemplate it in any other Y seat staggers me. They really are a horrible plane, and I fly in them twice a month.

Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

Good on QF on reinstating the service. Its long overdue.

As for other poster's comments on spending 5 hours on a 73H, thousands of people managed everyday (e.g. trans continental services in the US, excluding premium services from NYC). With a decent IFE, a flight of such duration should not be an issue.

Re: QF to resume PER-SIN flights

Well, just "supported" this service with a short trip to Singapore in late August. Got a good rate at the Conrad. Should be a fun four nights.

I suspect the removal of the A330 service was more about opportunity cost - the A330s could be better utilised elsewhere on the network. Similarly, the 737s were better utilised elsewhere, but now with the mining slowdown, that somewhere else is going away. So, I think PER-SIN was profitable, but other uses of the aircraft were more profitable....
