I saw Penfolds Grange at $380 a bottle near Hilton Tower Bridge.
How many bottles can 2 travellers bring home from England in checked luggage without paying import duty and taxes?
we were around the Borough Markets.

Great that is 2 threee packs each. I do like the idea of getting a one comma amount off alcohol on each run back home.
That also means we could do the nicer champagnes out of Los Angeles as well.

It is the current release year that I saw at 250 pounds.

Magill Estate is about five minutes from where I live. How weird it would be to go all the way to London to get a good deal. :)

You dont need to go to London, Langkawi has scary Australian wine prices!

I started paying attention when my local Californian Costco had the current release Grange at $399US plus tax so seeing it at a wine shed type of place in London at 250 pounds was pretty interesting. We don't usually lug stuff around but it is more than a thousand dollar saving for the six bottles which would weigh about 7 kgs.

I used to live within a similar distance to the Magill Estate.

IMO Grange is nice, but i'm not wrapped by the hype

707 is really really good if you can get it for a fraction of the Australian prices in London.

It's not one of those counterfeit imports that the UK has a problem with?

If it's a 2006 i'd think about giving it a miss. The 2004 vintage has a much nicer character, the 2006 seems a bit more savoury than previous vintages myself and some colleagues are skeptical about its cellaring potential past 7 or 8 years time. If you can get a reasonably cheap 04 or 03.

Up to you though of course, its a little hard to tell with Granges and what kind of prices they can fetch in the future

I will pay attention when we are in London in July now that we know we can bring a total of 6 bottles back to Australia. Time to start reading the wine reviews as I have not tried that year but I was given one.

Both Grange and Hill of Grace have always been cheaper in the UK, (even before the AUD's favourable exchange rate) simply because UK consumers won't pay the same price for the lesser known Australian wines than a better known "big name" French equivalents.

It's such a shame that these wines have become an investment. A wine is made to drink, but the speculators have made this function difficult to justify.

Pack them well, as you can't take them as cabin baggage, or you could end up with a bordeaux coloured wardrobe!!
