360 all up. 55 per night for the other two from memory.

I think a room with a view will allow the kids to enjoy the NYE fireworks without getting crushed to death and without having to fight for a spot.

You'll get a limited view of them (only what you can see in the harbour, which may or may not be effective due to the buildings also in the way).

If you want to let the kids on the roof, I recommend camping for a good spot early and bringing a few camp chairs (because the kids will tire a lot quicker than you will).

I've spoken with Glen (senior guest experience manager) from HIOS. He said that 75% of bookings for NYE is Gold/Plat/Ambassador/RAs cashing in the points. He said he has never seen it like this before. Hence they cannot give free upgrades to everyone as there are too many of "us" :p

He also said that they will be getting rid of deck chairs/pot plants/tables on the night to try to fit everyone in. So not sure if BYO deck chair is gonna work on the night. They will also see if they can close the pool.

On a crazy event night like NYE, I think almost everyone would be pretty naive to think they could finagle an upgrade, unless it was operationally forced.

Well, bring something for your bottom if you are "camping" (cushion etc.), otherwise sitting on the floor of the roof top for a while is going to hurt a tiny bit.

Have just locked in another of the Harbour View rooms, originally he wanted to charge me $250 * 3 nights but when I said I'd have to think about it changed to $55 for the other 2 nights. Interestingly he suggested he had 6 available rooms!

I think we'll see one of the two fireworks on the roof but not sure I want to have to spend 6 hours plus up there with camping out early to get a good spot then staying until midnight! As most of it is looking upwards I think buildings wont affect that much, the view on the 6th floor is really not that different to what its like on the roof (apart from the 360 degree view bit I msut admit!)

Can anyone tell me what IHG's definition of a "child" is, my daughter is 15 and unsure if whe is regarded as a child or night under IHG Australian terms.

Just be aware, 'they' ( hotel security ) are allegedly keeping an eye out for guests bring 'food' into the premises on NYE ...

I have never seen this anywhere. Not sure how they can enforce it.

The same as they can 'enforce' non registered guests being refused entry to the premises after midday ( or 1pm which ever it is now ) ...

"additional security" will be posted to the entry doors, so they state ...

Any one doing dinner on 30th at the Thai restaurant? Always good for a few AFF members to share some ideas.

What experience did people have with hotel security stopping you at the foyer door, to check names against hotel guest list ?

Not only was the room key needed, but photo ID ... just to get back inside after 16:00 hrs. on NYE ...

I thought it went really well - an awesome hotel I will definitely be returning to :)

Well, if anyone wants to do it again, it'll have to be at the proper rates, barring another glitch. So 35,000 points, or the usual points+pay provision.

Probably still very good value considering it is NYE, it is a good viewpoint (as the collective here should be able to vouch for), and IHG points are still relatively easy to come by, but exacerbated partly by minimum stay provisions.

I thought it was also a well run event. We saw the 9pm fireworks from the rooftop but went back to the room after that as the kids were tired and flaked it by 10.30!! However we got to watch the midnight fireworks over the opera house from our room.

Dud anyone else see the fireworks again on New Year's Day behind the opera house approx 9.30pm?? They were awesome!!!

Totally impressed with the lovely friendly staff at the hotel!

Nice surprise !!

My Account tells me, that I received 12 Elite Qualifying Nights for those four rooms at three nights each room ...

No points though ( wasn't expected ).

Does also state, 'Qualifying Brand' ( being HI ) ...

Will this actually count in with Big Win ?? ( I know Rules says not, but then why have it on Account Summary ?? )
