Its why I rang up to see if they would do the same for the duration you are flying business ie you are not going to get the full value of your QC membership when flying business so what not pause it as happens with attaining Gold)

Sooooo... I guess that explains two hour wait times for the rest of us

Section 10 of the terms and conditions answers your question. I know it is tedious reading but it's all there.

10.1 Subject to these Terms and Conditions, Qantas Club Members are entitled to access the Qantas Club lounge in the departure port when the Member's next onward flight on that day is with Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar.

There is nothing in the conditions that hints at your ideal outcome.

This may already be common knowledge but on the basis that Qantas will suspend your QC membership when you attain Gold status, I thought I'd enquire as to what happens when you fly business and are away for 6 weeks in doing so. My reasoning is that you are not getting any value of the QC club membership as those benefits automatically come with flying business class ( ie similar if you have Gold Status). Turns out nothing happens! You are effectively losing a month and half of your QC membership! Tough Luck !

You can get it refunded to the credit card you used to pay for it which of course has not yet expired and you still have...

Roomer, I think while you're at it, you should ask your car insurer to put your insurance on hold because you won't be driving for 6 weeks. And as you'll have (one presumes) travel insurance, you better ask your health insurer for 6 weeks suspension. And also ask the ATO for 6 weeks credit for Medicare as you'll be out of the country. Ask your phone company for 6 weeks credit because you won't be home and of course, you won't be using council services, so there's some more credit for you. I reckon the others here can come up with lots more suggestions. We'll probably save you enough $$$ to be able to pay for your J flights.

Many economies do actually provide this option where you're only taxed on the days you spend in the country.

The way it could be implemented is that for every eligible flight sector where Qantas Club access was possible, Qantas allocates a single entry, non-transferable Qantas Club voucher with a validity of say 5 years to paid Qantas Club members flying in Qantas business or first class.

In other words a credit system, that recognises that due to your ticket class, your Qantas Club membership was not needed this time.

Logic would dictate that the same principle be extended to those that are flying business for an extended period. But that is not the case

You think six weeks is an "extended period"?? Don't think you'll find anyone who will agree with that.

Bear in mind there are also some of us who have life Qantas Club memberships. We don't get any refund when flying J or when Gold or above.

But why?

Not that I don't see what you're suggesting but there seems no real reason to do this.

And what happens if I use my QC membershop to enter the lounge then get an ODU (or op up) to J? what that's given a credit?

I think the point that seems to be missed here is that a paid QC membershop is exactly that - a right of entry/service for a set period of time (including lifetime ) that is paid for upfront.. if you use it or not.

If you fly enough and, one presumes, use the paid for membership in doing so to move up in status to reach Gold+ then QF compensates (generously) by pausing a paid membership. That's basically a reward for the business.

To me this is different to purchasing a premium cabin flight and expecting the same benefit or a credit.

As posted above maybe I should ask my landlord for credit each time I am out of the country because I'm not using my apartment during that time....

Sounds like an administrative nightmare to me.
I am struggling to think of many clubs that will put you membership on hold just because you aren't using it for a short while.

Well QF does have the new-ish status hold, but again that's a status thing and not QC.

The only time I've been offered it (with no questions asked) was a gym membership outside contract, because they'd rather me suspend than cancel.

Also Qantas' parental Status Hold, which although I don't plan to take advantage of anytime soon, I think is a very nice gesture.

Qantas club allows you to guest someone into the lounge, whereas flying business with no status/no QC means no guest. You also get 'priority' phone service over a bronze.

So there is a difference from just gaining the benefits of travelling business class, Vs QC even if small.

Point being if you don't want QC membership then cancel it or don't renew again next year.

It would be like calling foxtel and saying I've been working late all week and have not watched my tv for a week so I want a discount/pause my tv for a week.

If you're in a month to month period outside contract, they may do. But how would you go if you were on a one year fixed term contract?
